I am curious…how many of you have genuine Catholic friends you can rely on? Not counting family (that’s THE ultimate blessing). I prayed for guidance and to remove negative energies/people from my life and BOOM literally I get introduced in the most unorthodox way to 2 females (years ago) who also happen to be Catholic and near my age. Although 1 of my good friends is a decade older & in her mid 30s, she is the closest friend I have. Girls night at least once a week where we talk about the faith is truly a blessing. Seriously, a blessing. This is very rare to encounter so I feel extremely blessed, I am just curious if anyone has ever prayed for ‘faithful’ friends? I did because I KNEW I needed them. It’s so lonely in my industry sometimes and I don’t have family nearby…while I love my parish and volunteer a few times a week, these people have at least 3-5 DECADES on me so it’s lonely and hard to relate at times.
God bless you all. I hope we can become ‘friends’. :o

I’m looking for faithful Catholic friends in person as well. My friends are Catholics, but we don’t get to talk about the faith or anything. You could describe them as rather secular, nominal. The same goes for my family members, except for one. The same with work. I have prayed for faithful Catholic friends, and continue to do so. While I appreciate and enjoy the good aspects of being with friends and family, I find myself hungry to share and talk about the faith with someone. It’s easier to maintain/engage/practice something if you have a support system. I was thinking of joining a site like Catholicmatch, not only for the chance to meet my future husband, but also to meet like minded Catholics.

I’d like to be friends with you too. 🙂

I prayed for this for a long time, too, but I also realized at some point I had to go out and do the work of actually making friends! While walking around fussy babies in the back of church, I looked at flyers and info on things to do, and started going to a few things and making small talk with people (which I always find so awkward, but as I practiced I got better). The really great thing was when I found a flyer for a moms group that does all kinds of things together. I had really been feeling left out from my former group of friends (almost all non-practicing, almost all non-married and no kids) when I entered this stage of my life and got serious about my faith, so that moms group was/is exactly what I needed. I wouldn’t say I have any super close friends from it yet, but I do have some people I can talk to about things I can’t with others, who get that my schedule isn’t what it used to be (theirs isn’t either!) and who agree with me about values. I feel more like I can just be myself with them than most other people, which is really what I wanted.

I dont really, thats why I.go on this site; cause otherwise there wouldnt be anything. Years ago it wouldnt have mattered, but now its important to have the support, both for myself & for my influence on other family members who would otherwise have no catholic influence. The devil’s pretty crafty at putting up barriers. Maybe we could find a spiritual home on the internet?
I’m not sure what u mean by having catholic friends you can ‘rely’ on?

I have a couple of friends in my life who are practicing Catholics. It is certainly nice to be able to show my faith without having to get into a debate from time to time.

Funny that you mentioned that since I meet 1 of the 2 Catholic friends that way! Not, CatholicMatch, but still, it was completely unintentional. Yes, Kets be friends. :hug3:

Interesting. I never realized how important like-minded faith driven friends were prior to this. It’s even harder to find anyone in their 20s who are this way. That support and spiritual guidance just enriches life.

I suppose I mean by actual practicing Catholics, not those “cafeteria” ones or those who only say they were raised Catholic yet don’t know much about their own faith or attend church, etc.
I definitely think you can find a spiritual home online. It’s just another beautiful tool that could be used for good or maliciousness. This site is definitely a blessing.

We have plenty of Catholics nearby… who go to mass on Christmas (christmas eve only , usually at the 4 pm mass so as not to interfere with their gift hauls) and occasionally on Easter.

My Catholic friends include a young priest who is so very busy, and two people who live far away.

Luckily, my husband and children are devoted to their Faith, so I am not alone.

I had two, but they went to seminary. I have a few others but they’re really just regular friends like I had in the past who I met through the church and sometimes go to mass with. The nitty gritty sharing the one true faith hasn’t really been a factor in our friendship.

Nobody in my family is Catholic or seems open to it, they rather seem to prefer idolizing facebook, television shows and celebrity gossip as most modern folks do. Of course I try to evangelize, but I can’t really compete against folks who watch the idiot box 6+ hours a day.

You can’t imagine how blessed you really are to have them in your life. I only have one friend I can really discuss faith issues with, and while he’s in a pretty similar place as me faith-wise, he doesn’t like to talk about things that are “too” Catholic (reading books about our faith, taking classes, going on retreats, fasting, etc.). I have a couple family members I can talk to about surface issues like getting the kids ready for various sacraments, stuff that happens at our parishes and things like that, but anything deeper than that is generally off limits. They were catechized post-Vatican II and have either decided their take on the faith is the right one, or they don’t feel talking about the things they only recently learned they’re really supposed to believe in. I have one friend whose wife has told me is very passionate about his faith now, but he thinks talking about religion is inappropriate or effeminate so I can only get a sentence or two out of him at a time. I have a few family members and friends who are very religious and like to talk about their faith, but they’re not Catholic and several of them are pretty anti-Catholic, so other than talking about movies and asking each other to pray for this or that, we tend to avoid talking about religion. There’s a core group who are in all the classes offered by my parish. We get along well but they’re all a good deal older than me so I don’t really see them outside of Mass or the classes. I’d be thrilled if I had a few friends I could sit down and talk to about religious issues.

fencersmother, wow wonderful to be friends with a priest. I hoping my future husband (whoever he is) will be as involved in the faith as yours is.

Estevao, oh I’m sorry to hear that. It’s a shame when the family isn’t united on those things. Thankfully mine gave me a very strong foundation and the whole family is devout. Some more passionate than others, but it’s still such a blessing. No walking on egg shells.

Gordon Sims, yes thank you. I am starting to realize that now. I try to attend classes or groups in my parish and like you mentioned, the people are usually a lot older (which I don’t mind) but it’s not like we can really “hang out” afterwards since the age gap is so drastic. It’s kind of a bummer if you can’t really talk to your friends about the important things in your life. In this case anything about Catholicism.

Praying that you all come in contact with more devout Catholics. :gopray2:
