How many legitimate forms of worship are there in the church?

I know of:

Mozarabic rite
Gallican rite
Traditional Latin
N.O.

In the Eastern Church

Devine liturgy ( ST John Chrysostom )
Devine liturgy ( ST Basil )

Anything i am missing?

You’re missing the Dominican and Carmelite rites. I think the Carthusians have their own rite; but I am not sure on that and will defer to any posters with greater knowledge on the subject. I am certain about the first two though.

Yours in Christ,
Thursday

These are all religious orders in the Roman rite–they don’t have their own rites. Their own feast days and celebrations, but not their own rites.

Sigh. They are both, for example, Dominican- tis a religious order (Order of Preachers), and a rite, I think.

There is a Benedictin rite, I think, but it may just be a minor change. I remember there were Benedictine Rite Vespers during Basil Hume’s time as Archbishop of Westminster. I would also add the Ambrosian rite.

However some or many or even all of these rites may have been suppressed.

Rites of the Catholic Church. You are right about the Dominicans, Carthusianm and Carmelites having rites. :tiphat:. But, I never experienced the Carmelite rite as a Lay Carmelite when in convocation with Carmelite priests. I don’t think it’s celebrated very often these days.

Well go me!

I think the Carthusian rite involves prostrating oneself in front of the fellow brothers after communion. It must be quite humbling. As for the Carmelites, I think there is a DVD of the rite. It is only celebrated in two places in the US I believe. The Dominican rite is making a comeback though, and is being taught in their seminaries.

The Gallican Rite has been suppressed, but you missed the Ambrosian and another suppressed rite, the Sarum.

A TON! While the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom is the primary Liturgy of the Byzantine Churches and the Divine (note the spelling, please) Liturgy of St. Basil is sometimes used, there is the Divine Liturgy of St. James and the Presanctified Liturgy found in the Byzantine tradition. There is also the Quorbono, Quddas, Chaldean Mass, and many others that you have omitted.
