Leisbian and Gay Ministry

What should be the mission of a Catholic Church that is going to start a ministry for Lesbians and Gays? What should be the focus of this ministry. The Church I attend for morning Mass is starting one. I ask for information only as I am not that familiar with the Church and matters concerning a ministry for Lesbian and Gays.

Gays and Lesbians are our brothers and sisters, and it is our job to give them all the support we possibly can, so long as that support coincides with God’s Laws.

We believe that those people who do have homosexual tendencies are called to a life of chastity, just as a priest or any non-married Catholic is called. I imagine the focus of the ministry will be supporting them and offering guidance on how to life a Catholic life.
 
You might check out the existing apostolate which ministers to individuals with same-sex attraction, Courage, founded by the late Fr. John Harvey. His book The Homosexual Person: New Thinking in Pastoral Care is supposed to be one of the better texts on this as well.

Thank you all for your information. It will be interesting to see how this ministry develops. I hope it will be Holy Spirit guided.
 
This ministry will certainly be a very curious mixture of attitudes and politics. The great difficulty, that may exist is separating the political cloak of “civil rights” from the choices to move beyond the “same sex attractions”, which locked the homosexual person into living out the attraction in physical consummation; first covertly then openly. NARTH.com is a very professionally driven site to learn more about this disordered life of some men and women.

I salute those ready to roll up their sleeves and work in this vineyard.
