saw stalks of lemongrass at the market yesterday and bought one and I have no idea how to use it in cooking. it is a stalk about 2 feet long, wider at root end, kind of like a skinny leek. tips, suggestions, recipes, it looks like a lifetime supply, since I cook for one, but welcome suggestions.

Lemongrass is used a lot in Thai and other Southeast Asian cuisines. From what I recall you crush it slightly with the butt end of a knife and add it to a marinade or some other dish. You don’t actually eat it, it just adds flavor to the dish. I’ve also seen it chopped up very fine in other recipes.

www.foodnetwork.com has bunches of tasty-sounding recipes that use lemongrass.

thanks and for those who pm’d with other links, because it tells me what I need how to actually use it. well I will get to work this weekend and let you know how it goes. always ready to try something new. I tried a search but kept getting where to buy it or where to buy Thai seasonings.

Weight Watchers magazine just did an article on lemongrass. If I get a chance to go through it again I will post the recipes.

That and galangal root (kinda like ginger, but different) are key to making really good tom gar kai. (Coconut chicken soup, and the best food for a cold I have ever found). Also, I like to put a 2 inch piece of it in rendang (a slow-cooked piece of meat which soaks up lots of coconut milk and spices, until it’s amazingly tender).

Or you can just make a nice, light tea with it - it’s great!
