Length of Easter Vigil/Confirmation

Hi, I was wondering how long the Easter Vigil usually lasts. I will be getting Confirmed that day and was hoping to bring my children. But I have heard (not from my church) that the service might last until midnight, which then of course I wouldn’t be able to bring them. Thanks for any information.
 
It will vary, how many are coming in, how many baptisms… in general, it will last 2-3 hours. You will need to be there early, and any visitors need to come early to get a seat!

There may be a reception following the Vigil as well.
 
Congratulations on making your confirmation. Never forget to put the gifts of the Holy Spirit at work in your life. Depend on them, they will never let you down. While the Easter Vigil mass is longer than usual, it is also very meaningful and full of symbols and light. So drink it all in. It will be a night you will never forget. Happy Easter.😉
 
One other thought - if you have very young children, bring someone who can look after them - allowing you go focus on this important Rite. Prayers! I’m off to rehersal very soon.

bring them and have them attended by a relative who will have the opportunity to attend Mass herself on Sunday, so that if they get restless the can be taken home after the Confirmation. the first hour will be taken up by the lighting of the fire, procession, readings and first part of the Mass (45-60 min, depending on how many readings and how many in the congregation), the second hour by baptisms and confirmations–depending on how many candidates there are (30-60 min). and whether they are baptized by immersion (that takes longer because the have to dress). the confirmations of candidates are done either while the newly baptized are dressing, or along with their confirmation. the last third of the Mass is the liturgy of the Eucharist, 30-45 min depending on whether or not Eucharistic prayer is sung, how many communicants etc. Here I am guessing 2.5 hrs for 14 adult baptisms, 2 infant baptisms & 16 confirmations.
 
Thank you everyone for your responses. I asked tonight at church and was told that it would only be about a 2 hr service. I am the only adult confirmation and then there are about 5 or 6 teens getting confirmed as well. There aren’t any baptisms so I’m sure that cuts down on the time.

Sounds like I will be bringing my children and have one of the teen members help out if needed.
