I am being Baptised and Confirmed at Easter Vigil Mass. There will be 5 adults and 1 child Baptised, and 4 adults Confirmed. How long should I expect the Mass to take? Thanks!
We do. This is a night to celebrate!Do you have a reception even when Easter is late and the Vigil is not likely to end before 11:30 p.m.?
LOL last night we had 9 infants baptised, it was soooo cute! I don’t know how many RCIA’s will be baptised this vigil though.Last year it was two hours.
We had about 5-8 being baptized and 10 or so being confirmed.
There was a small reception after.
Are these all adults? (As in over the age of seven or so?) If so, they should be confirmed when baptized. Is it possible that these people are very young children who are being baptized at the same time as the parent(s)?off-topic question, but I’m curious: Why are some people being baptized but not confirmed during the Easter Vigil?
I agree, but the later the Vigil, the fewer people we find remain afterwards. We have had a get together afterwards for the last 5 or 6 years (we have only had one baptism/reception into full communion in the last 11 years) but this year they don’t seem interested since the Vigil itself will be so late.We do. I’m sure it depends greatly on the makeup of the parish. For my parish the reception is usually a way for everyone to wind down from the “high” of the Vigil. And I belong to a parish that has always liked to stay around and socialize after Liturgies, including Midnight Mass on Christmas.I agree, but the later the Vigil, the fewer people we find remain afterwards. I attend a small parish with just a few baptisms and confirmations each year. But our Easter Vigil Mass still takes 2.5 to 3 hours. Blame it on the deacon and the choir. We love to sing everything there is to sing, and throw in a few hundred “alleluia’s” and the Exultet, and a chanted arrangement of the Exodus reading, and you end up with a looooong mass. But there is just so much joy that those of us in attendance couldn’t care less.I’m sure it depends greatly on the makeup of the parish. What time does it get dark enough for your Easter Vigil to begin?
This year we can’t start until 9 p.m. and by 11:30 not too many are going to want to stay to ‘break the fast’.I’m sure it depends greatly on the makeup of the parish. That sounds like the least amount I have ever heard of, you must be from a very small Parish, I wouldn’t imagine that Mass would last even an hour and a half. Two hours tops for sure, with everything before included. (now if you’re having some kind of reception afterwards, thats something else), we don’t usually do that as ours last almost three hours, but, we have one of the largest Parishes around, as a matter of fact, it may be the largest.I am being Baptised and Confirmed at Easter Vigil Mass. Actually, my little parish would be amazed to have ten, but our mass still lasts a good 2.5 to 3 hours. The Exultet is sung, and we do all the readings, including a chanting of the Exodus reading, sing all the responsorial psalms, and indulge in the richness and beauty of this most holy of nights. That sounds like the least amount (10 people) I have ever heard of, you must be from a very small Parish, I wouldn’t imagine that Mass would last even an hour and a half. She probably was just differentiating the Catechumens from the Candidates, meaning a total of 9 would end up being Confirmed. Five of them doing “the whole spiel” and four of them “only” being Confirmed.off-topic question, but I’m curious: Why are some people being baptized but not confirmed during the Easter Vigil?
