Hello:

Is it necessary to go to every Mass Friday in time of Lent?

Besides of the good teachings that can be received at the Preaches, is there some observation about it?

Grace be with you.

I believe Stations of the Cross are more often the service on Fridays during Lent…Friday is the day that Christ died and so it is remembered on each Friday during Lent…

It’s not required, but it’s a nice idea. 🙂

Some people also make a practice of attending Mass every day of Lent.

You can also attend the Stations of the Cross at most parishes on Fridays.

No it’s not necessary to go to Mass on the Fridays of Lent, although it’s nice to go on Fridays (and as many other days as you can) during Lent.

While the reading and commentary on Scripture is an important part of the Mass, the MOST important element is the Eucharist - where we participate in Christ’s sacrifice on Calvary - and Communion, where those who are able can literally receive Our Lord into themselves and become one with Him.

Lily makes a very good point. In my parish, the little room we use for daily Mass often becomes standing room only. Lent is the time when we are supposed to spend more time in prayer because the conversion experience is much more immediate as it is supposed to prepare us to worthily celebrate Holy Week.

I find going to Mass on Fridays, especially, is a very good practice, moreso now that we are in Lent. In my parish, we pray the Stations of the Cross, but, before the Noon Mass. This is a bummer because I don’t get to the stations on time (I get there when they’ve reached the 10th station). However, what I will start doing is praying the stations on my own, especially the ones that the former Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger wrote. I have found them to be the best stations I’ve ever prayed.

But, regarding the OP, certainly Mass on Lenten Fridays is a good, holy and noble thing to do.

no it is not required that you attend Mass on Friday in Lent. In the US Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat. the benefits of attending are those that come from every Mass.

Praying the Stations of the Cross on Friday’s… especially during Lent… is a good way to accompany Our dear Lord in His Passion. But, no… Mass on Friday’s of Lent is not mandatory. A great blessing if you can… but not mandatory.

Here is a good link for the Stations…
