Dear Brothers and Sisters,
After Mass this morning, Father suggested we consider Lent not so much as “individuals” but rather as the People of God, seeking not only holiness for ourselves but to seek holiness in and for the Church. Father has spoken several times recently about the need for the “inner purification” of the Church.
These were just a brief few words after the last blessing, but Father’s words this morning have remained with me. He is a priest who is also devoted to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and I believe his love for Mary sees her as Mother and Model for the Church, the spotless Bride of Christ. How pure the innermost Immaculate Heart of Mary is!
By God’s Grace, let us ask the Holy Spirit, sent by the Father and Son to bring us into ALL truth, to overshadow us and renew in us our Life in Christ. May we hear Jesus’ words: “Behold your Mother” and take her into our lives, loving her as Jesus did on earth and does now.
“O Jesus, living in Mary, come and live in your servants, in the spirit of your holiness, in the fullness of your power, in the perfection of your ways, in the truth of your virtues, in the communion of your mysteries. Rule over every adverse power, in your Spirit, for the glory of the Father. Amen.” – Prayer of Fr. Jean Jacques Olier, S.S. (1608-1657)
