My baby is due that day. I didn’t even think about this! I hope her birthday won’t fall on Ash Wednesday a lot. 😝

Ok, I just assume everyone is from the US here, sort of like a default position in my thinking - so assumed you were too.

And yes, you’re right - fasting is not really a burden considering we can have some food at each usual meal time.

ETA - if you don’t mind saying, and just from interest because I honestly thought it was the same everywhere (pardon my ignorance), but what country does the “two smaller meals together can equal one normal meal” apply?

Thank you.
I live in the Philippines but it is up to the Bishops Conference in each country to make decisions on fasting.
The law on fasting changed in 1966. See Paenitemini of Paul VI in 1966.

III. 1. The law of abstinence forbids the use of meat, but not of eggs, the products of milk or condiments made of animal fat.
  1. The law of fasting allows only one full meal a day, but does not prohibit taking some food in the morning and evening, observing—as far as quantity and quality are concerned—approved local custom.
Of course fasting only applies to those who have attained their majority. I think that varies from 18 to 21 depending on what state you live in in the US. It also only applies up to the age of 60.
The OP doesn’t say how old he is so it is possible fasting won’t apply to him.

Thank you thistle for your considered and indepth reply. I found your provided information interesting, and yes I was already aware the Bishops Conference has the authorization to decide what applies within their territory.

So I assume from this, this is the practice where you are in the Philippines?

And yes as you say, fasting may not apply in the OP case at all, without knowing how old they are.

Yes but sadly despite being a Catholic country (about 82% of population is Catholic) very few seem to be aware of the laws of fasting and abstinence.

Welcome to my life. I’m Orthodox and my birthday almost always falls during lent. If it ain’t vegan it doesn’t fly.
