Do any of you think it’s wrong to go out on Friday’s during lent? Like to the bar, out to eat, party, etc. ??

I don’t believe so, as long as it doesn’t affect your fasting or help you sin. If it’s out to eat or to a party, then I think that should be fine, but the bar would be where I draw my line, unless I go as the D.D. (designated driver), it’s better then to ensure that everyone gets home safely.

Well i hardly drink, so that’s not what i meant by it. But, i kind of felt like maybe i shouldn’t be having fun or going out to party on Friday’s, especially because someone told me that they don’t think it’s right. I just wanted to see what you all think. Thanks 🙂

I think this would be one of those “all things are permissible, but not everything is beneficial” practices Paul talks about. It wouldn’t be wrong to go out, but it could be spiritually beneficial to you to spend Lenten Fridays differently: praying, Stations, etc.

There is nothing wrong with going out to dinner or to a club to have a drink during Lent, unless you have sacrificed this kind of thing for lent & then abandoned it, even so , I still wouldnt think is is a sin. God gave us life to enjoy, he doesnt want us to sit around with long sorrowful faces , like suffering souls, Be joyful, & Love God Joyfully. Its fine to love God, But we are still mortals here on this earth. You have to find a happy medium between the worship Of God & Living in this world. We must do both

out to eat and out to a bar should be ok(although i’m not sure a bar is a nice place to be…never been to one, but i’ve heard stories d: )
but i have been told we shouldn’t have to many parties during lent, since it’s a time of penance and mortification and not a time of celebration,
of course i’m not saying not to go to any parties at all, but simply limit yourself…

it’s good to deny ourselves in things we want or desire, because by that we learn to have control over our actions and we aren’t as easily swayed by our feelings and temptations, it’s good to deny ourselves in big things as well as small things, and actually it can be even harder to deny the little things, since those are the things we do most throughout each day.
i know some people have the opinion of “oh the church just doesn’t want us to have fun!” but it’s not that at all, it’s about self control, God gave us the gift of free will, and most people don’t even use it because they are just slaves to their emotions and desires or to the world or the devil,
so lent is really a time of learning to control yourself,
we are told that to suffer teaches us to love, and to love means that surely we will suffer(as we see from Jesus) and that is also another point of lent, to do penances and suffer for Jesus…well, that’s another subject anyways, so i’ll just end it here :>

ok hope this helps, tc.

There was a time that Lent was observed with more of a somber mood. My mom talks about how we weren’t supposed to have any parties, any weddings, go to the movies, etc during Lent.

Now, its more of a personal choice how to choose to observe Lent. There are no rules that forbids you from going out with friends on Fridays during Lent.

Thank you all. And, to someone’s comment, yes I think it is definitely more beneficial to go to church and stations of the cross instead. I try to go to stations every Friday and pray the rosary, but i just felt like maybe i shouldn’t go out after. But, I guess it’s ok if i don’t do anything wrong. Thanks!
