This year i vowed to give up bread for lent, but I am finding it difficult to give it up entirely. This is partially because I forget sometimes (if someone is offering something to me, or if there’s leftover pizza). I’ll just eat it and not think about it, then I feel guilty for not being more vigilant. Can you please pray for me to REALLY give up bread this season?! It’s one of my favorite foods and eliminating it is tough!

Hail Mary full of Grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary mother of God,
pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

You can try giving up extra helpings of bread.
It’s important to offer something that is doable and sacrificial at the same time.
Maybe keep a wristband on to remind you of your offering. 🤷

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Gracious and merciful Father, please come to their assistance.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Amen.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Remember,
O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that any one who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence,
I fly unto thee,
O Virgin of virgins my Mother;
to thee do I come,
before thee I stand,
sinful and sorrowful;
O Mother of thy Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in thy clemency hear and answer me.
Amen

Now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

May the Lord give you strength to make this Lenten observance to the best of your ability.
Amen.

From the Liturgy of Ash Wednesday, to remind you of your resolution:

“Rend your hearts, not your garments” – Book of Joel.

“A clean heart create for me, O God, and a steadfast spirit renew within me” – Psalm 51.

“Behold, now is a very acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation” – 2 Corinthians 5.

“When you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, so that your almsgiving may be secret…
When you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret…
When you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you may not appear to be fasting except to your Father who is hidden” – Matthew 6.

Amen.
