I am writing things down and wanting to go to confession soon. Now what about if one forgets or happens to eat meat other than fish on Friday of lent? Is that something I should confess? Is that a precept of the church?

If you forget, no sin. If you eat meat on a Friday in Lent in defiance of the Church rule, yes it is a sin. It’s not really eating the meat in itself that is the sinful part, (according to what the priests have taught me), it is the disobedience to the authority of the Church, which was established by Jesus.

There are also times when one can be dispensed from abstinence on Lenten Fridays by one’s Pastor–if so, no sin. If not eating meat put one’s health in danger–no sin.

Yes, it is a precept of the Church–observing the days of fast and abstinence as established by the Church.

Right on, CB.
I assume if one were to eat flesh meat on a Lenten Friday, and they are under the regulations established, and in defiance of the Church, I’d say that’s grounds for a mortal sin. Correct me if I’m wrong, though.

Well since I’ve been in the church I haven’t observed this. When I became aware of it I went to the priest and asked to be dispensed for health reasons. I take meds too. Well now I can’t remember exactly why I asked for dispensation. I got to thinking this isn’t asking much. And it’s in the spirit of lent. So I am going to begin observing it.
