Lenten Polish Stuffed Cabbage Without Meat?

Does anyone have a recipe or know what the name is of this dish that my Polish great-aunt used to make for my mother?

It is stuffed cabbage which she thinks had a potato-onion-rice filling. Instead of being covered with tomato sauce, she thinks the stuffed cabbage rolls were fried in butter. I’ve been looking for the name of this dish or an exact recipe for a couple of years and may just go ahead and try to come up with something, but if anyone of Polish or Eastern European descent has ever heard of this dish, I’d appreciate knowing the name of it and an exact recipe. Thanks.

I don’t know what it’s called in Polish, but I think you’re referring to what Ukrainians call holubtsi (or maybe a Polish variation?). There are meatless and meat-filled types. Try googling for a recipe, I came up with several hits when I did that. I’d have to go dig in a recipe book to find it, so it might be faster if you just look it up.

It’s called golumpki and can be filled various ways. I think I have a vegetarian version, but I’ll have to look…

I have heard of a rice filling, and its very good…I’m sure potato would be delicious

Omigosh, that sounds delicious!!
I have no idea where to find a recipe (tho I am going to look!!), but it sounds similar to an Irish dish called “champ”…and I* know* I like that one!!
