My friend asked me a question the other day and my answer to him wasn’t sufficient to him. If there is any more advice any of you can provide or perhaps correct, please advise.
Here is the question: My friend has OCD. He figured he would use the OCD to his “advantage” at Lent. He said that he said the following to God: “I promise God not to commit this sin during Lent.” Then he said he can’t remember if he said “if I do, you may give me X disease” or if he said “In exchange that you never give me X disease.”
Well, sadly, this has backfired on my friend. He slipped up and is now worried that God may punish him. I told him that A) it’s impossible to make a contract like that with God and that B) God is not looking to punish us for our sins, but rather save us.
He agreed but he’s still a bit concerned by it. I think it has to do with his OCD making him worry. Any thoughts?
