Have you all decided what you’re going to give up or do for Lent? I’ll probably try to say a daily rosary. What are you doing?

Good luck to you! What faith are your parents? My husband was brought up Baptist but practices no religion now. I never experienced or was evn aware of anti-Catholicism growing up, but as an adult I now know it’s rampant. My husband told me that his Baptist Church he went to as a kid never spoke against Catholics.

Non Catholics all over the US show u for ashes. I’m sure whatever church they go to may offer ashes.

I am giving up CAF.
I am fasting more, and getting more exercise, and praying the LOTH more often. Sometimes I just forget and the hours pass.

Giving up CAF would be a setup for failure if I tried that, lol.

It’s an occasion of vanity for me sometimes. And it’s a real time waster. The plethora of masturbation threads makes my head hurt. I likely will come and read, maybe comment if something comes up…but in general, I’m out for Lent.

My parents are very anti-Catholic, and that includes anything that even resembles Catholicism. So Lent, Advent, Saints days, etc. are all out.
The three pillars of Lent are Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving (with almsgiving the greatest). Your parents need not even know, as all of these actions should be done without “the right hand knowing what the left hand is doing”.

So, despite those around us, we all have ample opportunity to pray, fast, and give alms without bringing it to the attention of others.

Pax et Bonum!

The fact that you mentioned that, not for the first time, indicates informed humility regarding a natural human inclination. Your posts are often insightful, knowledgeable, practical, always concise, and it would be a pity if you were absent for a period of time.

Following the disciplines of the Great Fast of the Byzantine tradition.

I am thinking TV. And read one “religious” book a week. I also plan to visit my elderly friends more. I do have to agree with pianstclare that CAF can be a real time waster…

Also thinking daily rosary in addition to no candy (or something similar) and some sort of helping around the house that I wouldn’t otherwise.
Giving up Facebook is a good idea. I should limit my time online.
