Anyway…back to the point…I get your analogy as I said, however, if a politican goes out spouting ideological ideas and then is completely hypercritical (sorry, my spelling is awful!) he is hardly a good role model, and is likely to be voted out at the next election. How is the Holy Spirit meant to guide someone in truth if he doesn;t even live by the truth? God uses our humanity to accomodate to our understanding…why would God use someone who only professes him as lord with his mouth and not with his heart. it doesn’t make sense

I agree and appreciate your concerns. The only thing I can think of is that God uses people for His purposes regardless of whether they are good or bad or even believe in Him or not.

Think of the corrupt high priest Caiaphas who condemned Jesus to death. God still allowed Caiaphas to prophesy. Remember, Caiaphas is the one who said that “it was better for one man to die for many”. So even though Caiaphas didn’t profess Jesus as Lord at all (whether by mouth or by heart), God still used him to convey His prophecy. And why? Because Caiaphas was the High Priest that year, and it was in his office as the High Priest - not as Caiaphas the man - that he uttered this prophecy.

Ok…but seeing as the RCC claims to be ‘the only way’ (which obviously, being protestant I disagree with), but…for agruements sake pretend I agree with you…then why would he put someone like that at the top? It does’t set a good role model

This question, I believe, has no answer on this side of heaven’s gate. It is one of the mysteries of life.

I could probably give you a lot of wise-sounding answers, but the truth is, we really don’t know why He does a lot of the things He does. Why does He allow little children to suffer? A lot of the answers may not be given to us till after we meet Him face to face.

BTW, there’s nothing wrong with being Protestant - some of my favorite relatives are Methodists. 👍

May I suggest that rather than looking at this or that doctrine that the church teaches, you instead look at the Church’s claim to have the authority to teach those doctrines? Because really, everything else stands or falls on that. If you just start looking at the individual trees, you might miss the beautiful mountain range they’re planted on. 😉

fair enough…interesting view. I think I’ll just stick with Jesus then - seeing as God is the only constant. I wouldn’t want to risk the pope ‘getting it wrong’ and then leading me astray…for he is only a mere mortal…not perfect.

But, you forgot one thing. The Pope holds an “office” that God created. “Man” did not create the papacy. This office was designed for the True Shepard’s representative to guide us on our way to heaven.
