Leonard NImoy, Spock of 'Star Trek,' Dies at 83

I only watched Star Trek because of Mr. Spock. Eternal rest, grant unto him, O Lord.
 
AFAIK they were at least at one time both Jewish. That’s quite a step to go from Jewish to atheist. In atheist do you mean non-Catholic?

Though Leonard Nimoy was Jewish, may his soul “live long and prosper” with Christ in Heaven. Amen.
 
I had no idea atheist meant you were not a member of an “organized religion.” I thought it meant you do not believe in a higher power as an all pre-vading pwer. Or perhaps those of a more mystical side of organized religions, which is how Nimoy’s character struck me. That might by some be considered atheist. How exactly can you be an “atheist Jew?”

For those who get the MeTV channel, they are having a tribute to Nimoy this weekend. Tonight at 9 pm (E/P) they will show the classic Star Trek episode “Amok Time”, and tomorrow night there will be episodes of FIVE different shows in which Nimoy appeared.

DH drove a few hours yesterday to pick up our granddaughter from college for spring break. On the way home they stopped at an antique store. As they were walking into the store, Granddaughter’s phone gave her a message from the BBC that Nimoy had died. She had just told Grandpa and they walked inside and right in front of them was a shelf with a Star Trek glass (I think they were sold years ago at Taco Bell) with a picture of Spock and the words “Spock Lives” at the bottom!!

They said they both got goosebumps, and Grandpa bought her the glass lol!!!

Granddaughter will always remember that story!

Amok Time was one of my favorite episodes.

An “atheist Jew” is a person who is ethnically and/or culturally Jewish. But does not believe in God. They might even go to Temple form time to time and celebrate the high holidays, but they do it out of “Jewish pride” and not out of belief in God.

Note: this is a difference between a true atheist and an agnostic person. Agnostics believe in “some kind of higher power” but they don’t believe in a personal God.

So what would I be then? I believe in a personal God but not an “human like” God. God doesn’t really have attributes like love, truth, and so on. That’s for man’s understanding. God IS truth and IS love. We say “God loves man”. Sounds great but not really technically correct. Right? I don’t want to change the subject here. But thought I’d ask. No one has to answer of course. This unexplainable thing is the most “personal” thing we can experience. And when did Nimoy say he was atheist?

METV also ran an episode of Rawhide in which Nimoy appeared on Saturday afternoon.

Also, a “Man from U.N.C.L.E.” episode in which Nimoy as well as William Shatner and Werner Klemperer appeared. Nimoy and Klemperer were the bad guys and Shatner, per usual, got the girl. 😛
