I know it is viewed as a sin. I did not know if it came under the culture of death. What about having sex for pleasure with no intent or ability to procreate?

No. But I would think that sex outside of marriage, while a sin, wouldnāt fall under the āculture of deathā heading, would it? (Is that expression an offical Church position?)

Itās Pope John Paul IIās expression. If itās unprotected sex, it would not be part of the culture of death. However, if no protected sex by using condoms, or other contraception it would be part taking in that āculture of deathā since no means of creating life is involve.
If however, the couple **does not **have the ability to product any children, it does not part of the culture of death. Since the couple have a defect of not being able to bear any fruit, itās not their own fault.

I am open to being corrected, but I think the Eastern Rite Catholics take a dim view of people converting to their rite just because they want to be a married priest. You might not get selected. Perhaps some ERCs can comment on this.

The thing is Eastern Rite states that the men discerning the priest must be already married. If he becomes a widower, he cannot remarrry at all.

Many of the Eastern Rite Churches in the US have mostly celebate clergy. At least this is what the Byzantine Rite Priest at the Byz Parish near me said. Although he said it is changing. He is not married.

Having sex for pleasure is ok, as long as the procreative aspect is neither impossible or nearly impossible. If you have no ability to procreate, you can still have sex (inside marriage, of course) and it is not a sin, because you did not prevent the procreative aspect, nature did. However, having a vasectomy, unless it is required by a medical emergency, is a mortal sin.
