***In other words, the vicious attack motivated people to give to the funding campaign. A similar campaign for Baronelle Stutzman, the 70 year-old florist who dared to apply her convictions to her business, has raised $167,000.

Why can’t this be our strategy from now on? There are surely millions of Americans who will defend natural marriage whatever the cost, with the confidence that those who think they’re on the right side of history will someday collide with the left side of reality. We won’t all be intimidated. Let the SSM swarm and their media accomplices do the tedious market research for us. They’ll find the person of faith and conviction — the photographer, florist or food-truck owner in fly-over country. The swarm will gather over these individuals like a black cloud of locusts. And then tens of thousands of us will crowd-fund the victim.

The funding technology and communications infrastructure are already in place. Publicity is one of the hardest things to get for a crowd-funding project. For pro-marriage businesses, however, the SSM swarm provides the publicity for free.***

People will deny services or do whatever it takes only for the chance of receiving large sums of money.

When throwing money at an issue instead of prayer, we may have lost the battle.

It doesn’t sound like a sustainable solution. And as mentioned by another it seems like a solution that would be easy to abuse. I’d question the authenticity of someone that refused service knowing that there is a golden parachute there to save the business. Especially if there were indications that the business were in financial trouble before making their declaration.

Yeah but the thing is, the whole idea is driven by what the media says. If they lie again, as they have been doing on the religious liberty issue so far, by misrepresenting the issue, we now have stumbled upon a way to respond. It’s hard to see how fraud on the part of marriage advocates could become the problem, since the whole thing is driven by how the media portrays the situation in their reporting.

The current problem is that religious people are being unnecessarily bullied. And I think this is a great solution! I for one love the idea of being able to support people like Baronelle Stutzman and Memories Pizza! I’m not worried about devout Christians who are willing to stand up for marriage lying to make a few bucks, because I think anybody who’s serious enough of a Christian to put themselves out there for marriage is not going to be so stupid and small as to lie publicly to make a few bucks. That is a suspicious mindset that I think only a SSM advocate could really take seriously. You’d have to be really removed from the reality of what these Christians are like, and I think SSM advocates really are out of touch with that.

No. I think prayer and action go together. If there is a confirmed target, and it will be a confirmed target by the media and LGBT press, offering financial support is a good idea.

Abuse? Not likely. I don’t think businesses should put their reputation on the line if no legal papers are filed that clearly state the reason for the lawsuit. Lawyers for either side can confirm it as well.

When in doubt, ask a priest for advice regarding this idea.
