I would say, no. More importantly, the Church says that that is not necessarily the case.

How would this standard apply in the following situation: I have a choice between a Mass at the SSPX chapel at a convenient time or with the FSSP at a time disruptive to my family? They are around the same distance away from me.

My sympathy says go SSPX, my gut says stay FSSP, my head says ask a solid priest.

If you read posts #5 and #8 in this thread, you’ll see that the commission drew the line already, so we don’t need to use our own judgment on that.

Isn’t that a little vague? So if there is a diocesan parish down the road with no wheelchair ramp and there is an SSPX chapel 45 minutes away with one, and I’m wheelchair bound and can drive, is that a hindrance? What if the time is more convenient for me?

How does the Ordinary Form play into this. What if an Ordianary Form Mass is available right around the corner from your house.

I’m not trying to stir the pot or poke a bees nest with a stick. I’m sincerly interested.

No. since the Church has not said I may not attend. One may attend because one likes the masses or the congregation or because of proximity or even because there is no EF near.

Now if the Church pronounces that they are in schism and we are not to attend their masses, then I wouldn’t. Same reason I won’t attend a sedevacantist chapel.

But if it is left up in the air or if there is confusion in the pronouncements, I will attend if I want to.

I can’t tell if this is sarcasm but I’ll bite.

First, the discussion is only about attending Catholic Mass. Let’s leave it at that. As far as attending Catholic Masses goes, I think we may safely say: yes, we may attend any of them until the Church says we can’t.

And just to be totally clear, the Church has gone further than silence on the matter of the faithful attending SSPX Masses. She (through PCED) has actually stated that upon meeting two conditions, it is okay.

No, but they’re Catholic. The Church has never said they are not Catholic and the Church has never said we can’t attend their Masses.

And you can fulfill your obligation at a Catholic Mass.

It will count, if your intent is to go to Mass I don’t think God is in heaven with a checklist saying, “Nope SSPX doesn’t count…” He is a loving God, they are all ordained Priests so I don’t see what the problem is. They are just saying the Latin Mass which they have at my Parish by a Diocesan Priest.

God loves you very much, he appreciates you going to Mass no matter where it is.

We spend a lot of Sundays on the beach in Santa Cruz. There is a quaint little SSPX Chapel on our way in the mountains above Los Gatos. Will that fill my Sunday obligation now that there seems to be some final agreement?
