Let there be light

After reading Genesis again… I see that I was the one in darkness… There seems to be lots of stuff around before God said, “Let there be light.” And we don’t know if he used language to create it… but I kind of think he MIGHT have since Jesus is the WORD!

In the beginning God created heaven and earth.

2 Now the earth was a formless void, there was darkness over the deep, with a divine wind sweeping over the waters.

We have heaven, earth, darkness, depth, wind and motion and waters… and then light…

What was the first thing God created in Genesis?

And God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light.

The first thing God created was---------------- language… sound… speaking… hearing… understanding… He had to be talking to HIMSELF!!!

Wow! He was certainly busy and obviously is very busy today…

Some Jewish commentaries conclude that the Torah was composed by God a couple thousand years before actual creation. They conclude this on the basis of a quotation from scripture someplace.

As a reaction to your post, I would suggest that the actual creation is one thing, and the record of it in the Torah (first five books of the Bible), is another. For one thing, if you conceive of God literally saying those words, they would have been in Hebrew, not English, as far as our written records are concerned.

There would have been no witnesses to most of the acts of creation, and so the record of creation seems to be a result of inspiration – as a suggestion about your post.

Why would a good Jewish boy write, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”? Why is Jesus called the Word? What is word unless to be spoken (or written?)
