Let's also put the MASS back in Christmas

I would just like to encourage everyone to take part in a little thing I have done for the last three years around this time.

Every year before Christmas conversation inevitably turns to the way Christmas has been watered down into “the holidays” and how shopping and gift-mania have overtaken the true meaning of Christmas. Of course we also see the “controversy” over any overt display of Christian things and their replacement by less “offensive” things, such as Santa, reindeer, etc etc.

Well, I have several evangelical and various Protestant friends who are very aware of this trend and many of us get worked up talking about it every year.

Inevitably, someone will say "It’s time to put ‘Christ’ back in ‘Christmas’ "---- and everyone will agree that we must all do that.

Well, I began replying “Yes, we need to do that. But we also need to put the MASS back in Christmas as well. The word, after all, comes from ‘Christ’s Mass’. And the holiday—HOLY DAY— comes from celebrating MASS that day.”

This has led mostly to stammering “Uh…” but also to some good conversations. Either way, it is good food for thought for all of our non-Catholic brothers and sisters in Christ.

Please join me in promoting the acknowledgment of Christ’s Mass this year.

Yes I agree! Lets also pronounce holiday correctly…
Happy Holy Days!

I’d be OK with Christians simply not being afraid to be un-PC and wish everyone a Merry Christmas, unless they are addressing someone who they know is Jewish, Islam, etc.
