I just joined the Catholic forums as a Non-Catholic mainly just to help to correct some misperceptions of my beliefs that I have seen on the forums. I’m also open to sharing experiences with fellow Christians because I find an open dialog with people of all faiths is helpful to myself and to other people. I’m not here to convert others or to bash others. So I was very surprised to see the many hateful and abusive remarks about other non-Catholic religions on these forums. I have many friends that are Catholic and highly respect the Catholic church and actually members of many religions that truly practice their religion and the teaching of our Savior to love our neighbors and serve others throughout our lives. I’ve seen this in many multi-faith organizations where great things have been done.

I would plead with all members of these forums to respect the beliefs of others. I think we can all agree to disagree, but for one person to ridicule or post degrading remarks about others’ beliefs, it is degrading and hateful and damages the poster and others that join in ridiculing more than it damages the actual beliefs of those people. Basically… “can’t we all just get along”? It’s hate like this that we fight each day with bigotry, racism and war throughout the world. Please respect others’ beliefs.

Sincerely,

Jacob

Good. Charity begins at home, so why don’t you counsel your home-boy Zerinus to stop his hateful diatribes against the Catholic Church. Then you can move on to why me, who delights in bringing up the personal sins of Catholics in every discussion and depicts all Catholics as drunken child molesters. Get the idea?

hi jacob.

i love ALL people of every gender and race. however, please do not ask me to be tolerant to those that teach violence. the muslim religion states that those who deny that faith are to be killed.

please don’t ask me to PC sugar coat that evil. to me it is like asking us to be tolerant to the evil hilter spread. i love the muslims, but the ideology i renounce!

can you see my point of view?

Huh? I can only speak for myself and ask you to take responsibility for your own actions, not for someone else’s. I don’t believe anything like that about Catholics…

That’s fine… I agree that teaching violence and hate is wrong, thus my point in the first place. I’m not defending anyone that does that. I think if there were more LOVE in the world, we would see the wars go away. And we can only control our own actions. Instead of bashing beliefs, why aren’t we all talking about how we can join together despite our beliefs to fight these problems of hate, poverty and so on?

Best wishes,

Jacob

Jacob,

i admit i was and still am pretty much ignorant to the muslim religion. and yes we are in agreement to love everyone.

but how do we (in a peaceful way) stop the mind of our fellow brothers and sisters from accepting the hogwash that is islam? you can read the sincerity in those that post on this forum that are muslim… that they are trying to do good. honestly i adore them, but how can we show them the path they are on is not ok?

we simply can NOT condone it. they are on the path to darkness.

how can we say, your religion has some truths mixed in with evil without offending those that accept it as the will of God?

how do we convince them that killing sinners or those that question a dictatorship is NOT what God wanted?

Why did you intend to have such a title for your thread?
Because I felt that this is what is happening a lot in the Non-Catholic Religions forums. Let’s get together and do something good… let’s do something great and make the world a better place instead of putting each other down.

Best wishes,

Jacob

Yeah, can’t we all just get along? Sorry, but everyone who has ever been Mormon or interacted with Mormons knows that the only reason a Mormon chooses to interact with non-Mormons is to convert them. Mormons are not interested in dialog or sharing information or exchanging views or cooperating for charity. They are here to convert us. Period. “Every member a missionary.” We are not people to them, we are merely “contacts”. And they will tell any falsehood and deny any of their teachings and history (milk before meat, don’t ya know) and distort and spin and slander anyone or anything necessary - in short they will say or do whatever they think increases their chances of deceiving and converting us.

That is the bottom line on Mormons. We won’t get fooled again.

Your title says the opposite of what you wanted. So, I don’t know how that actually helps and it might make someone here feel unpleasant - So, what do you think the title should’ve been before we build a better place?

If you see anyone posted something which violates the rules of the forums, you just simply click the warning sign for that particular post. The admin will look into it.

Jacob,
The thing is, sometimes we can repeat the same old thing over and over again and it does get tiring. We present our religion and then they will ‘attempt’ to poke holes in it, which would require a response from us, and it can get pretty heated.
It is both sides that are guilty of been unpleasant towards the other.
So please read more threads before passing judgement on catholics alone.
God bless

I’m certainly not passing judgement on Catholics alone, I would ask anyone of any religion to be friendly. I found it interesting that this forum of Non-Catholic Religions existed and when I read it and found the amount of anti-other religions topics and content, I was actually quite surprised. I have actually ready through at least a good 250 messages before I even signed up and since then have read another 200+ messages across many different threads. I also found it surprising how many accusations have been thrown my way just by posting in the forums along the lines of this topic.

I’ll admit that I was using sarcasm when I created this thread, probably not the best approach… sorry.

Jacob

again jacob, how do you tell a muslim that their violent ideology is wrong without offending them.

i would love your advice.

You know I don’t think bashing anyone’s religion or other religions ever solves anything, it prevents helpful, honest dialog and understanding. I’ve seen some of those threads and it hurts more than it helps. I like to learn about other religions and faiths, not to bash them, not to convert them but to understand them.

But you know what? As a Catholic I’m getting so tired of all the bigotry, hatred and intolerance thrown at my Church and my faith. I’m tired of all the jokes about priests and altar boys, how evil the pope is, that Pius the XII was a Nazi collaborator and did nothing to help the Jews during the Holocaust, how we hate gays and women, how backwards the Church is for not ordaining women, and don’t even mention the fact that we “worship a cracker” BS.

I’ve had relatives leave the Church and they are the first to start the bashing. I’m sorry that they left the church, I truly am, but I haven’t left the Church and I don’t appreciate the attempts to be converted away from my faith or told that I’m misguided or less of a Christian because I am a Catholic.

Yes, the bashing starts both ways, but this is a Catholic forum, where Catholics like to come and find other Catholics to talk about things. Of course, people of other religions and faiths are welcome here, but they need to respect the rules of our playground. And yes, we Catholics need to play nice too. One other point, Catholics also tend to bash other Catholics too and those posts can be just as hurtful and as mean spirited.

Sorry for the mild rant, I’m just feeling a bit sensitive and bashed myself right now.

the problem is jen they dont think they are violent, once they do, you might be able to crack the code…

yeah, i am STILL waiting to see how muslims justify killing those that leave their faith.

given that we are not in opposite land 😛 how could any individual think that killing someone for leaving their faith is NOT violent?

we probably should take this back to original thread…
