While participating in another thread on this forum, my mind began to wonder…

Wouldn’t it be great if all the modern post vatican II churches were demolished and replaced with modern versions of Gothic Churches?

I would love to see a modern interpretation of a gothic or romanesque church. St Agnes’ Church in NYC is a perfect example of this. After the original was destroyed in a fire, they were going to replace it with a modern church building. However, people protested and they ended up building a traditional Church. Apparently this church attracts visitors from all over due to the beauty of the architecture.

Based on current trends within the Church i.e the Motu Proprio and the general return to tradition, do you think there is a possibility that church architecture will improve?

I know of so many beautiful churches which were demolished and replaced with modern meeting halls. We lost a great deal of our culture when these historic buildings were discarded in the chaos of the early post councillar years.

Is there a chance that we will replace these buildings eventually? Do you think that we will ever reclaim the beautiful architecture of the past?

I, for one, hope that new Churches more fitting for worship will be built in the decades to come.

I know one old beautiful church in one famous city (doesn’t matter where) - and the thing is that you want to go there for prayer and there are those tourists everywhere… That’s annoying too!
