No. It was a trick question. Two educational institutes in America have in their possession wardrobes with a provenance traceable to the Lewis family.

Wheaton College seems to have the better claim, which pleases me.

Wheaton College also owns the personal Chesterton collection of the rare book dealer from whom, years ago, I regularly bought Chesterton, Belloc, and other RC authors. Because of my interest, he also started selling Lewis titles. He sold his Chesterton collection to the Marion E. Wade Center at Wheaton, around 1970.

Playing it straight, your answers were correct.

Any other (straight) trivia questions?

What gifts did Father Christmas give to Peter, Susan, and Lucy in LWW? (Edmund wasn’t with them at the time.)

A sword and shield to Peter, a bow and arrows to Susan, a healing cordial to Lucy. (There may have been others, but I didn’t want to cheat by looking it up so am going by memory.)

Oh, yes, a little knife for Lucy too, I think.

A lion (who turned out to be Aslan) wounded Aravis on her travels in exact retribution for what?

A servant girl was whipped because of something Aravis did but can’t remember what

As a child my favourites were Prince Caspian and The Last Battle. Then I went through a phase of loving The Horse and His Boy. Critics often say that Lewis’ female characters aren’t very credible, but Aravis is by far the best female character in my opinion. Not at all the sort of person who I would want to meet in real life but who can infuse so much reailty into a book. These days my favourite books from that series are The Silver Chair for its theological implications, and Voyage of the Dawn Treader for its Oysseian roots.

Another Narnia trivia question: What was the one sign that Eustace, Jill, and Puddleglum got right without any missteps?

Brethren and sistern, you are in for a treat. The NarniaWeb forum includes twelve thoughtful sub-fora on Narnia films, books, characters, performers, and the reading group. Reading group this month is for The Silver Chair.

Rumor has it that Douglas Gresham, C.S. Lewis’s stepson lurks there. He is consulted during production of the current movies.

Family-friendly site. Plus, I’m a member and they’ll know I sent you. So be on your good behavior, please. 😇

Oh, and the one clue that was recognized by all travelers (Puddleglum, Eustace, and Jill) was that only one person in their travels would ask of them in the name of Aslan. So although they were frightened, they freed Prince Rilian when he asked them in the name of Aslan.

New trivia question: where did the lamp come from in the Lantern Waste?

I seem to recall (without looking it up in The Magicians Nephew) that there was some sort of fight with the Witch and Uncle Andrew and Digory and Polly on the streets of London and a lamppost on the street was broken off just when they were all magically transported to the newly-forming Narnia. The broken lamppost was buried in the ground and a new lamppost spouted and grew from the old one, since Narnia at this stage was magically fertile.

Along with a lot of other stuff, I collect Williams. PLACE OF THE LION is one of my favorites.

Perhaps when the fall/winter reading season arrives we can have a “Let’s all go to Perelandra” group read! 😃

Good idea!

I’ve never read the Narnia chronicles.

Fun to hear about this novel by Williams. I’d not heard of it before. I have read Descent Into Hell, which is a chilling read - how a rather average sort of chap falls and, well…it’s there in the title
