It came to me in the early hours of this morning while it was still dark out, and I was still in bed. I was thinking about how cool the Tiara and all the old Papal vestments looked and lamenting the fact that the Pope no longer used them, and then it donned on me. All of us on the internet say we want the Pope to say a Solemn High Mass, wear the old vestments, etc. Why don’t we, Traditional Catholics on the Web, united and make His Holiness 2 High Mass sets ( white and red) and a Tiara, and then donate them to the Vatican? I doubt that he would just tuck them away somewhere and refuse to use them. What do you all say?

I am quite sure he would. Well, maybe not the High Mass sets which he could wear for one of the Papal Masses, but the tiara certainly. He didn’t modify his coat of arms for nothing. The tiara would only be misinterpreted by everyone, and given the current perceptions, I doubt the Pope needs the tiara to add to the impressions that he’s just antiquated, out of touch, etc. Tiaras no longer impress as they once did - they will just alienate and confuse people, and cause more harm than good.

To me, the tiara is simply the ugliest hat ever invented.

The tiara was not worn at mass. EXCEPTION: When Blessed John XXIII concelebrated the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom with the Melkite hierarchy at Vatican II, he wore Byzantine episcopal vesture, with the fanon and tiara instead of the Byzantine mitre. Here’s a picture of him at this occasion. You’ll need to scroll down:

And what particular special papal vestments did you have in mind? The only pecularly papal vestment that I know of was the fanon.

If Benedict XVI wishes to resume the use of the tiara, I think he has his choice of what he would like to wear.

Okay. Say we nix the tiara and settle for the High Mass sets, i.e. fanon, chasuble, sub-cinctorum, dalmatics, cope and mantum with Benedict’s arms. I have some designs sketched up, though they are far from perfect.

Personally I like the tiara, but understand how it could be misinterpreted to mean that the pope is some kinda king… which technically he is monarch of the Vatican… but i digress.
Before the pope was crowned there was a lot of things in the old coronation mass that showed that the pope was to carry a heavy load…
like when they were in procession to the altar and stopped three times. so the deacon who was holding something that was burning away (can’t think of the name right now)
and he would say to the pope…
“Holy Father, Thus goes the glory of the world” meaning the glory of the world is gone now that your pope… soo…

Here’s an idea:

What if the Tiara is incorporated to the coronation mass in which the tiara is brought in through the aisle as to symbolize that the people give the pope the crown… and after the Pope was crowned the pope prays/acclaims

"You crown me with a crown of Gold, while our dear Lord was crowned with a crown of thorns… I cannot bear such burden… God help me… for I am but a poor servant… Grant me O Lord the strength to feed your sheep and lead thy people to the Truth, which is Christ thy son who lives and reigns with you and the holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.

I don’t know… not the greatest prayer ever made… but it’s an idea… someone else may help make a much better prayer… or idea…
And even if the pope doesn’t listen to us… we can say we had fun imagining… 😛

. . . .

You mean, like what John Paul II did with the Tiara that was made for, and donated to, him by the people of Hungary?
