Oooh, I love that silver one! Beautiful.

And thanks to the resident “rosary geek” 😃 for the technical definitions (I always think his handle is “tee 'em off”)

I just have 25-cent plastic ones, the glow-in-the dark kind. Oh well, it works. I have enough of them so when the kids play with them and lose them around the house, no worries, I can always grab another from the shelf.

I don’t have a scanner, but I can describe it. It, my favorite, is one of many. it belonged to my father, and I can remember him praying that rosary in the 1940;s. It is made of black wooden beads. I have had to have it restrung as it literally was falling apart. I have even had it blessed by Pope John Paul II. I think, but am not sure, that dad had it also blessed by Pope Paul VI, in the 1960’s

Herein is my own rosary. Had it since '89. The crucifix was a gift from a saintly priest when he came back from vacation in Spain, his hometown.

When I first became catholic and started the rosary, I was disappointed in how flimsy they seemed to be from the store. The chain was always breaking. I had some orthodox friends and had been praying with a prayer rope the Jesus prayer so I thought maybe a strip of leather with knots would make a good rosary - I made it but it ain’t pretty enough to share in a picture. I use it in the car and it has been well worn without falling apart - the only rosary I have that has stood the test. I’m thinking of making another using the same approach but knotted more carefully so I can show it to people :).

Wow! That’s a great site! It is exactly the kind of thing that interests me. One of the things I love about the orthodox ropes is their simplicity and rough feel…using hemp or wool and these instructions I bet you could come up with some really unique and durable pieces of art. I can hardly wait to get started!
 
Just as an update on my attempts -
I found some old hemp cord I had and tried out the rosaryarmy knotting with it. Granted, I am incredibly impatient but the knots are very difficult to do with hemp and the difference between my “hail mary” and “our father” knots is hardly noticable. So I would recommend using the cord as described in the instructions. I’m going to keep practicing with the hemp but I think cord will be much easier.

Here is my Rosary! See if you can figure out where one bead is missing 😦

I am looking to buy a vintage one and had all my dreams come true yesterday on ebay. I found two beautiful ones, bid, was successful and didn’t realise that they were only for shipping in the States 😊 So I was euphoric for about 20 mins. I will keep looking.

The one shown has the following medals attached: Miraculous medal, Holy Family, Pope John Paul II and Padre Pio with relic.

Of course the Cross is once with a St. Benedict’s Medal.

You may want to stop looking on ebay. They support planned parenthood.

You should check on etsy.com. It likely wouldn’t be vintage, but you could probably find one that looks vintage. And all the products on etsy are hand made and support individual people. 🙂
 
which one? I have rosaries the way some people have mice. no matter what drawer or purse you open, there will be a rosary, plus a wooden one one on a hook by the door when I go out to walk, and a box on the front hall table with several to use for guests at the prayer group. My grandmothers long (3 ft) wooden rosary from Germany is draped over the retablo of NS Guadalupe, and a lovely large knot rosary (gift from first retreat I attended at new parish down here) hangs over our wedding crucifix by the front door.

have several of the wood bead string rosaries, made and sold around here by people who go around to restaurants, outside stores etc. to make a little money. some have the saint decals on the beads. those I use for evangelization and give-aways. I always keep a supply, and rosary pamphlets in English and Spanish, on me for that purpose.

my favorites
a silver rosary like one picture above from Monterrey, but quite heavy to carry around and use.
one with beads that are large seeds (Job’s tears?) advertised in the catalog as being similar to the one carried by Mother Teresa
most of my standard glass bead rosaries are from Missionary Oblates (the ones advertised on the back of Catholic magazines) and they do hold up well. I have one in a pouch in every purse so I am never w/o one, also one in each of my tote bags (one for Benedictine Oblate meetings, one for Adoration chapel, one for bible class etc).

one of theirs I really like, and have had several over the years, but have always found a cancer patient to give them to, is one with pink beads that look like some mineral, not clear, that is supposed to be a healing rosary, and came with a healing prayerbook.

also the red rose bead rosary of St. Therese, I have given several of those away to people in need of a miracle.

I have several knot rosaries made by a men’s religious order in Mexico, which I love because there is no chain to break, no problem at airports or prisons.

then a bagful of the cheap breakaway plastic rosaries for CCD, prisons and boot camps, nursing homes etc.

I came back to the rosary late in life, through a personal mini-miracle, and use it whenever I need Mary to shortcut my job of catechesis and evangelization. She says silently in the rosary what I cannot in a flood of words.
 
😊 Sorry for posting when everyone is probably long finished with this, but I enjoyed so much reading this from all of you. The rosary is my favorite thing. I think the one revelations made is wonderful and loved the description of the leather one Stratiotes has. I make the olive wood rosarys to give to anyone who wants them and mine look something like Morwenna’s but with a different crucifix and small metal beads either side of the Our Father beads. I string mine on the 1 mm trot line I get at the discount store. I made one for a lady at my Church and then the next Sunday she tried to give me money for it. She just pushed the money into my handbag and took off in a hurry. I thought a bolt of lightning might be coming through the roof to take me out. Lucky for me, another lady went past carrying the basket of gifts from the altar and I quick pitched the money into that. Whew!

Not finished by a long shot…I"m subscribed to this thread because I want to see everyone’s rosary who said they’d post pics…I will do my best to post some today (I"m using my husband’s laptop and have to install the digicam on here but as I said, I will do my best to post them today).

Not sure but why would you think you’d be struck down for accepting payments for a rosary? Although I don’t mean to go far off topic here…selling rosaries is OK but that can’t sell any specific blessing which may have been bestowed upon it – as with any sacramental (reliquaries, relics, bottles, icons, statues, etc). Put your conscience to rest on this one, Sanne…XOXO.

The old rosary came over with my family from Ireland, though nobody knows who the original owner was. My dad inherited it and gave it to me as a baptism/confirmation/first communion gift when I was received into the Church this past Easter. I save it for special occasions because over the years the wiring has deteriorated a bit.

The wooden rosary I bought here. It’s the “St. Joseph” Rosary. It’s the first rosary I ever owned and still the one most dear to me. There’s just something about the feel of the wooden beads that feels right!

Sorry about the poor quality pictures; my only working digital camera is the webcam integrated into my laptop.
