Let's talk about Mormonism

Very fitting I think from the little I have just read. For example, his son said, “We are gathered here because of one man, a man known personally to many of us, known only by reputation to even more. A man loved by many, scorned by others. A man known for great controversy and for great compassion. That man, of course, is Jesus of Nazareth. It is He who we proclaim.”

There is some difference between funerals based on the individuals in attendance. Elder Packer was a rather strict about such things. Generally I hear a combination of stories about the deceased and messages about the gospel. As the previous poster mentioned, there may be something about Joseph Smith since we see him as the one who restored the truth to the earth, but the focus is typically on Jesus Christ and the plan of salvation.

I’ve been to one LDS funeral. The lady who had passed was not an active member of the church and those who spoke were mostly negative about the way she lived her life. About the nicest thing I heard was she loved cats. There was a small group of us there who are not LDS but knew the deceased well, we were appalled at the criticism of her life choices at her funeral.

As far as etiquette, similar to other funerals I guess.

I have been to many and officiated a few Mormon funerals. The last one I went to was my father’s. We paid tribute to my father. We also talked about the false Mormon God.

I don’t know what a Catholic funeral is. I have never been to one. Mormon funerals include a member of the priesthood doing an ordinance called dedication of the grave site of the deceased. Mormons also bury their dead in their temple robes if they were previously endowed.

Joseph Smith since we see him as the one who restored the truth to the earth, but the focus is typically on Jesus Christ and the plan of salvation.
A con man and liar restoring truth. How ironic.

My heart aches when I see people who profess to be christians try to destroy the faith of others who also believe they are trying to be Christian. Having and strengthening faith can be so difficult already with out people making light of that yearning to know God and His truth. I am a Mormon who is currently going through RCIA my heart is so open and loving learning from a catholic perspective. I don’t know about you but I have not met 2 Catholics yet who seem to see the gospel of Jesus Christ exactly the same way. There is often an attempt to put an umbrella over the head and say mormons believe this or that when mormons just like Catholics really have their own understanding of truth. If you want to know what I believe I would be happy to answer your honest questions, I don’t speak for the church. I am not its leader but I am more than comfortable sharing what I believe and why.

You are right. It is my experience with the Mormon guy on the plane trashing Catholics that put me off wanting to know any more. When the missionaries come by, I politely run them off and tell them I am not interested. Our words and actions have consequences.

I would imagine we would become much closer to being one like God expects, if we would stop believing we had to protect our beliefs by fending off or doing battle with other christians who have a different perspective (John 17:21). The more perspectives we come to understand the more unity, love and peace we would experience as the body of Christ.

I am sad to hear this I wonder why people feel the need to speak ill of the dead

I believe in everything we do the focus should be on Jesus. How we do this may be different for each person.

Someone who exercise priestcraft sets themselves up to be worshiped instead of God. True prophets should never point to themselves as the source of the light rather a tool like a candle stick that is holding it up for others to see. Mormon prophets have never set themselves up for worship or claimed they were the source of any light. The instead have tried to point people to God by setting a example of holding the light of Christ up.

Can you give me an example of what you know goes on behind closed doors

Actually we know it was good because God allowed it. If something happens, it is God’s will. Nothing happens with out it being God’s will. If it was not God’s will he would not have allowed it to happen. If his will is not" what is" then God is allowing something that is not his will and therefore He would no longer be God because He would be acting against God’s will and would be sining. He would stop being one God because He would be in argument with himself and therefore divided and not unified.

Is sin God’s will? What exactly are you getting at? I just wanted to discuss Mormonism, it seems to me you have me confused with someone else.

So Chairman Mao being responsible for the deaths of millions of people is God’s will? That’s not what this is about, nor is it true. Just because God allows it does not make it good or his will.
