Isaiah 29:17-24

Matthew 9:27-31
In Isaiah, it says all the evil ones will be destroyed. Then it
gives only 2 kinds of evil-doers: 1) Those who gossip to incriminate others 2) Those who trick a judge into dismissing a just man’s case.
And what does it mean to incriminate others? Does that have to
mean legally or can it just mean that we want everyone to agree that what so-and-so did was wrong? I personally think gossip
is a most challenging thing. How can it be fought when it just
happens before you even know it?
In the gospel, Jesus tells the blind men before healing them, “your faith deserves it”. That’s not the first time He says your
faith has healed you. He even used the faith of the friends of the paralyzed man to forgive him of his sins before telling him to take up his mat and walk. Another time the Bible says He could
heal only a very few sick there because there was so little faith in that town. So my question is, does Jesus really need faith to heal someone, or does He just say that because that’s His policy?
Today is the day of St. Nicholas. Someone recently told me
they didn’t believe in writing letters to Santa so instead, the children wrote letters to St. Nicholas to give to baby Jesus.
The letters would say how good they were and things they did
wrong that year, and how they would resolve to be even better for the next year. They put their shoes on the porch, and in the morning, they would find a response letter from St. Nicholas, along with little toys and candy in the shoes. Isn’t that a sweet
custom?
