Isaiah 30:19-21.23-26
Psalms 146
Matthew 9:35-10:1.6-8
Wonder why they didn’t use vs. 22 in Isaiah’s reading? It’s only
one verse, saying you will throw away your idols and say “Begone!”.
In the Psalm it says “He heals the broken-hearted and binds up
all their wounds.” It doesn’t say His followers will never be broken hearted or wounded. It just says He binds up ALL their wounds.
I have noticed this to be true so far.
In the gospel, Jesus calls His disciples and says, “Cure the sick,
raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out devils.” Judas walked around doing all these things, how could he change his
mind about Jesus? Maybe he felt that Jesus could not be harmed by mortal man, seeing as so many tried to kill Him already and He just walked away unharmed every time. Maybe he thought he could force Jesus to reveal His true power to all.
Today is the day of St. Nicholas. What does he have to do with Santa Claus? He is a saint who did kindness, not looking for any thanks. That’s what we do when we “play Santa Claus”. We say our gift is from Santa because we want no thanks for ourselves.
I wonder what it would be like if children were instead told that the gifts were from baby Jesus? They wouldn’t have to put their faith in elves, magic reindeer, and the north pole. As they got older,
they would just find out that baby Jesus got older too, and He
gave the greatest gift.
