According to the Bible and if you disagree please provide scripture. If not, there is no purpose in posting without using God’s Word as proof. 🙂 PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.

Why do we (people) continue to say you go immediately to Heaven or Hell, when the Bible plainly says a person returns to the dust after he/she has died (sleep/slept)

Job 7:21 And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away mine iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the morning, but I shall not be

Psalms 13:3 Consider and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;

Daniel 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

1 Corinthians 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

1 Thessalonians 4:14, 15 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

2 Peter 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

1 Corinthians 15:18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

If you would like to disagree, that’s fine. But please provide atleast 3 unbiased scriptures/opinion to back you answer.

Can you provide scripture for your disagreement?

That simply means that at Christ’s Second we won’t all be dead. That’s another discussion. I made a thread on that also.

Now, back to you providing scripture.

Why stop now? You knew suddenly that I was wrong, so why not provide sudden proof.

I’ll be waiting…

What about getting judged? Do you not think this is why we assume we go to heaven or hell right away?

As Catholics however, we believe that nothing unclean enters heaven, so many of us will be spending some time in purgatory after we die, unless of course you have annointing of the sick prior to your death- which erases all of your sins. However, you may have not done penance for these sins, therefore you still may go to purgatory to become clean.

Returning to dust simply means what we were before we had a body on Earth!

Can you provide scripture so that I may know where you are coming from and how you came to this.

Also, why would the Bible state something so plainly? Why would we take something that is straight forward and say something about it that has no biblical proof?

Some one recently told me that befor Christ came, no one went to heaven!? He said that this was Catholic teaching? Is this true?

When Christ spoke to the thief on his right and told him “this day you will be with me in Paradise” he meant that day. The kione greek is clear, clearer than english is on the correct time tense. The Adventists sects and spin-offs (including the JW’s & WWCoG) are WRONG in claiming Jesus meant "this day I am telling you, you will be with me in Paradise.

For clarification, “Paradise” is NOT the same as Heaven–Paradise almost certainly means the “Bosom of Abraham”-- a degree of Purgatory where there is no longer any suffering for attachment for sin, but no mortal soul could enter Heaven until after Christ’s Asscension.

Can you give a scripture for paradise and purgatory?

Truthseeker,

It seems you have left unadressed the issue of the koine greek (the language the gospels were written in) in regards to the time-tenses utterly and absolutely ruling out the possibility Christ was just refering to the day of his proclamation, as opposed by the correct translation meaning the Thief would be in Paradise (with Christ) THAT day.

You mean like Sola Scriptura? Which is proven by ummmm…which verse is that again?

Hello Zundrah. 🙂

Yes, this is true. Original Sin separated us from God. Those who died before the Death and Resurrection of Christ, were in hell. Not the hell of those who will be judged as damned, but the hell of those separated from God, because of Original Sin. It is called Sheol, Hades or the netherworld.

Psalm 89: What mortal can live and not see death? Who can escape the power of Sheol?

Acts 2: 24 But God raised him up, releasing him from the throes of death, because it was impossible for him to be held by it. 25 For David says of him: 'I saw the Lord ever before me, with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed. 26 Therefore my heart has been glad and my tongue has exulted; my flesh, too, will dwell in hope, 27 because you will not abandon my soul to the netherworld, nor will you suffer your holy one to see corruption.

Thankyou RebeccaJ! I’m glad to see you! 😃
