Hey everyone!
I don’t know if there’s already something like this started on this forum or not- but I thought it would be a great suggestion.

We all know there are many suffering souls in Purgatory that can’t be released without our help. Prayers, fasting and offering up masses are an effective way of doing this.

I’d like to suggest we work together to empty Purgatory!

I know many of you recite a daily rosary, so maybe adding 10 of these prayers at the end of your rosary wouldn’t be such a huge undertaking. I have posted a link below. Please have a read through. It was promised by Jesus that any time this prayer is recited, that 1000 souls would be released from Purgatory. That’s a lot of souls! If the prayer is worked into the rosary form, it is prayed 50 times which means that you alone have helped 50,000 souls reach their forever home with God! Imagine how many more people in heaven you will have praying for you and your loved ones!
Imagine the difference we could make if we band together!

I’ve memorized the prayer and recite it everytime I remember to throughout the day. I’m going to do my best to make a rule of reciting it everytime I use, or see the word “Purgatory”.
I’m going to work it into my daily rosary, promising to recite it at least 10 times after every rosary. I’ll recite it in rosary form when travelling for work and every time that I can find the time to.

Anyone else interested in joining me? If anyone is interested, we can help keep each other accountable by posting on this thread. Suggestions are welcome. Maybe we can also choose a day or two throughout the week where we automatically pray it in rosary form to make a serious “ding” in Purgatory’s population.

There is a “Let’s Empty Purgatory 2” Prayer group established in the Groups Forum on the right of the Home Page. We pray daily for the release of the souls in Purgatory. Please feel free to join our group. Prayers are powerful. More members, more prayers for the souls. God bless.🙂

Oh! I will! Thank you!

Looking at this from a bystanders position, I can’t see the logic in it. According to CC teaching, doesn’t Purgatory have a purpose? Or is it just useless punishment? Is it not supposed to accomplish something that the soul needs in order to enter heaven? If this is not the case then what sense does it make to have it exist at all? Do you get my question?

Yes, I totally understand what you’re saying. The souls in purgatory are there to suffer, it is said they burn in an endless fire of God’s love. This flame goes on and on, burning away the stains that blackened their souls through sin. There are many levels in purgatory, the lowest levels allow demonic torment (to a certain extent) while the higher levels bring you closer to Heaven where the devil can no longer torment you.

These suffering souls can do nothing to help themselves. They can’t pray for their quickened release. They have to depend on us to help end their suffering.

When you pray for a soul in Purgatory, God can ease their pain by bringing them closer, thus lessening the pain. God can clean their souls more quickly to allow them to be in the state of grace necessary to join him. Can you imagine how grateful they must be for our help? Those souls enter heaven and in return pray for us.

I don’t know if that answered your question? If you’re interested, there is sooo much info available on Purgatory. I read a book years ago on a mystic called Maria Simma (the book is called “get us out of here” by Nicky … I don’t remember his last name). It changed my life.

Not sure if you’re interested, but this is a good read. It may help you understand.

Amen! Also, praying at 3:00 (the hour of Mercy), can increase the “effectiveness” of the prayer. It’s become a habit to say it every day at 3:00.

I didn’t know that! I’ll try to make it a habit as well:)

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son Jesus Christ, in union with the most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, said throughout the world today, for all the holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church, those in my own home, and within my family. Amen.

Thanks for the link! It made it clear that although sins are forgiven as far as for eternal judgement, there remains the stain or impurity of it which is cleansed by fire. However, nowhere in scripture are sins cleansed by fire. Rev.1:5 says we are washed from sins in His blood. In Rev. 7:14, the people in heaven have washed their robes in the blood. But when Catholics speak of baptism they want to claim that WATER washes away sins. The bible never speaks of anything but the blood of Christ. It was prefigured in the OT by the blood of the sacrificial lamb. Only the blood has the power to make us whiter than snow. If anything else.could work then Christ died needlessly.

It is further claimed that the offering of Judas Maccabeas proves that sins can be forgiven after death. But the Jews knew nothing of the sacrfice of Christ, so this prooves nothing and there is no prophecy of anything in these books.

Next it is claimed that Mt.12:32 prooves that sins.can be forgiven in the next world, but it only says that they can’t be. Secondly it was already stated that purgatory is not for forgiveness. So this does not apply.

Another paragraph quotes 1Cor.3:13-15 but it literally adds purgatory to the verse. Adding to scripture is a dangerous and unwarranted precident.

Par. 11 states that Christ’s sacrifice only freed us from the damnation.of hell, and not from any other things such as sickness, death, pain, and the effects of sin. This.is again contrary to scripture. 1Pt.2:24 states that we were healed by His stripes. Jesus did accomplish our healing. He also accomplished our righteousness. 1Jn 1:9 says “he is.faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to CLEANSE us from ALL unrighteousness” .

Submission to Christ means taking a leap of faith thay He has done it all and there.is no going back to our own works and righteousness. Jesus Christ and His work must be all my righteousness.

BTW i do very much believe in praying for the dead, but for different reasons. There is time between death and hell where the “dead” can still call on Jesus and repent and trust him and He is pleased to rescue such a one from hell. There are many testimonies of this by those who had NDEs . When Jesus receives our prayer of faith, He can not deny giving someone a last chance. 🙂 His mercy always goes further than we imagine.

Shalom
Jerry
