Okay, this is a really dumb question, so I apologize, but does anyone know where I can find a letter sized version of Amoris Laetitia? I’m in formation for the permanent diacoante, and I wanted to read this over my Christmas break. I know you can get the PDF version from the Vatican Website, but this is formatted in A4 I believe. I know I can print this on letter sized paper, but I was hoping to reduce the size of the printout a bit by having it printed on 8x10 paper. I know, this is being picky.

If anyone knows where I can find this, please let me know.

Merry Christmas! 🎄

Probably an inadequate solution but can you not copy it to a word processor and resize the font until it fits?

Merry Christmas to you too! 🙂

Great idea Lee, and normally that would work (You can export from the PDF to Word), but the problem is that each page is a section and all the footnotes on the bottom of each page are actually on the body of the page, and not the footer. This means that I would need to modify 264 pages.

words, stop being cheap and buy the book? 🙂
Or petition the Pope to send you one of those awesome giant versions like the version of Laudato Si he gave to Pres. Trump:

Well, again, I am trying to reduce the size of the output… that just makes things a bit worse. 🙂

I know you can get the PDF version from the Vatican Website
Convert it to pain text using an online PDF-to-text or PDF-to-Word converter, or install a PDF-to-text conversion tool on your own computer. There are many.

After converting to text or Word, do as Lee1 wrote.

@Roguish, been there and done that. Yes, it converts it, but it puts a section break on each page and when you remove all those section breaks, all the text is on top of each other for some reason. I gave up and just purchased the Kindle version.

OK, but if you had converted to plain text (i.e. a TXT file, not Word) there wouldn’t have been any section breaks, because sections don’t (and can’t) exist in a TXT file. You might want to try it if you ever need to re-format a PDF again, either w.r.t. size or font or anything really.

Sorry, you are correct, I didn’t do plain text. I tried RTF and DOCX where I had my issues.

EDIT: Okay, so I tried doing the plain text, and the one issue it causes has to do with the footnotes. They are interspersed with the reading information. Looks like there is no easy solution to this as one would need to convert all the footnotes to end notes manually, and then also reformat the headings (the headings would not be that big of an issue). SO, while it is possible, it would be time consuming. It makes a much more compact document in Letter sized paper though as it comes out at 120 pages vs the 264, but then again, I have not done any formatting on the Word document so it may be longer.

And it’s not like Trump read it… his supporters here on CAF aren’t too fond of that particular encyclical ;).
