Whoops just created a thread on this in Liturgy and Sacraments. Can a mod merge these two threads?

Thank God I live in this Archdiocese.

Let’s just leave them both up, people need to get this info.

One of the rare times a forum is actually super useful

Interesting. Does this mean that if someone who was invalidly baptised as an infant, then later rejected Catholicism and was married outside of the church to another non-Catholic is therefore actually validly married?

I, myself, couldn’t arrive at any other logical conclusion based upon the CC’s canon law. Though the mind stutters at endless permutations caused by this one rogue minister.

I doubt very much it is simply one minister. Although I’m hopeful there won’t be a need for repeat ordination ceremonies, I think there will need to be a lot of baptisms and confirmations.

I share your doubt.

Can one be validly confirmed without being baptized? If two Catholics were married sacramentally and one was invalidly baptised, would that require covalidation after valid baptism?

Are other rites such as confession and remission of sins invalid if the penitent was never really baptised into the Church?

One cannot receive any other sacraments without the foundational sacrament of baptism. However, once a person is baptized, their marriage would become sacramental.

I believe we are going to find a number of people who were not really baptized, and therefore did not receive the rest of the sacraments.
