Steven Colbert. Just announced a couple of minutes ago. Any thoughts?

Personally, I could go either way. I’ve never watched The Colbert Report (outside of a few clips – not out of any dislike, just because I haven’t normally watched Comedy Central since they dumped MST3K back in the '90s) so I can’t say much about his style, but it’ll be nice to have someone who, even if he has some not so kosher ideas, does wear his faith on his sleeve taking over from Letterman, who IMO, took 20 more years to retire than he should have.

I used to watch him years ago, back when I was still in college, when he first came on. I wonder if he’ll keep the whole “Bill O’Reilly on steroids” persona for the Late Show or if he will be more himself.

If “more himself” means the Catholic that he claims to really be, then, let’s hope so.

Unless, of course, the Catholic thing is a shtick…personally, I don’t think he’s really in character and his late show persona is more himself than he let’s on.

I was hoping Letterman would be replaced by VP Joe Biden. He’s a funny man. Kind of smiles like Letterman too. 😃

I find it kind of strange right after Leno retires, Letterman decides to as well…?

I think he’s funny, but have never really watched his show. I never watch Letterman, either. I don’t watch much TV.

But I love the fact that people like Limbaugh are so foot-stomping mad about it. 😃

I loved it when he said “I teach Sunday School mother******”!"

Honestly I’m waiting for the day when he savages someone on TV Catholic Sunday School style.

I liked that too, but even better was his explanation of Hell which preceded it.
Here’s the video of the interview with author of the Lucifer Effect.

It wasn’t on the show but he did a “Catholic-off” with some rock star trying to trip each other up at to which saint of patron of what, Church history &c.

As for replacing Letterman I thing he’d be better off staying where he is. On the Reoport he’s playing a character – who knows if he can capture an audience as himself? An who watched late-night anyway?

They should have gone with Chelsea Handler. There hasn’t been a ‘chick-host’ on late nite since Joan Rivers.
Hmm…I don’t know…I think she’s too much of a potty mouth to make it work on a network show. But I’m also not hugely familiar with her.

I will miss the Report. I guess I will try it a few times and see if I like him in the new format.

Yes, he is a Catholic, though I do no always like him on Catholic issues. On the other hand, I have seen him hold his own against atheist pretty darn well.

Plus he is a Tolkien fan. 👍

I don’t much care for Colbert. Of course, I only know him from the character on his show. I am not sure what kind of catholic he is or how he portrays himself when he is not trying to imitate o’reilly.
Personally, I don’t know if he will be successful or not.

It has already been confirmed that Colbert will not do his “persona” on the new show. 👍

Personally-----I will not watch. On the contrary to what some may say, I think the man will be even WORSE than his stereotypical “persona,” now that he can be fully “himself.”

At least when he was playing his “conservative” character, he could filter out his views and at least present a slight facade of mystery regarding his views-----with the new show, there will no holding back his true feelings--------which most people rightly fell are almost certainly full-blown liberal. So yes-----I will not be watching the almost certain mocking of mine and his faith and of typical left-wing one-sided mocking. 🤷

She was basically the “funny drunk slut” in her stand-up act. On her show----which I VERY occasionally watch----she is an unabashedly leftist and and unabashed butt-kisser of most celebrities (though, OT, she is vocally critical of Angelina Jolie----mainly because she and Jennifer Anniston are very good friends, if you know what I am talking about, BTW).

She is also very unabashedly pro-choice and pro-gay marriage----------she outright BRAGGED some years ago in print about having an abortion at 16. (I’m not kidding).

If you watch, know what you are watching and what to expect. That is all I am saying. 👍
