Letters from the Congregation of Doctrine of Faith

I hope this is not a dumb question, but:

Are letters from the Congregation of Doctrine of Faith considered doctrinal teachings that the faithful must adhere too?
 
I would tend to say, yes.

My question is just, why do you ask? Is there a particular reason you are asking about this?

I’m asking because there is a part of one of these letters from the Congregation which really clears up some things. So I wanted to know if it was considered an authentic teaching

I’m not a Catholic expert on “all things Catholic” but I see the CDF as being the law of the land and “almost” an extension of the Pope’s authority. One can’t get any more authoritative than the CDF, but it seems like a fair amount of Catholics these days dissent from teaching x,y, and z, and ,of course, they find some way to justify it.

Maybe when I say “fair amount” I’m being vague and I guess that I am.

Yes, we can trust letters from the CDF to be the authentic teachings of the Church.
