I was talking to a friend who was very upset that one of her 40 days for life friends from college has since become a pro-choice obgyn.
It sounded to me like over time all the maternal deaths and baby deaths and miscarriages and DNCs take such an emotional toll that they almost have to think of us all as just guts to survive sometimes. The patients that live stop coming. That’s the nature of the specialty.
Then I got to thinking maybe we owe it to these doctors to help them not to slip into despair. To help them see the families they have helped grow and know they are a part of that. To thank them for their work.
I know some people do remember to send a picture of the baby to the office or a family Christmas card. I feel bad that I never have. I want to start. I don’t know if that will seem weird after all this time.
I just really think this is a nuanced angle of the prolife movement we with families are especially equipped for. Keeping doctors connected to the value of the lives and families they serve.
Thoughts?
