I was in Barnes and Noble the other day, browsing the books, and happened upon a beautifully bound book. It was in hebrew with english translations on the facing pages. It read like it was a ritual book, though I recognized some the the rules from leviticus, it was not a copy of leviticus. Does anyone know anything about this? Just curious.

Hi But For Grace!

It sounds like it might have been some sort of Jewish text or possibly a Hebrew-English edition of Leviticus (there are lots of those).

Be well!

thanks, I did think about that, but two things make me doubt it…

1 - It did not start with the rules for sacrifices like Leviticus does, those are found near the middle of the book.

2 - it contained responorial passages similar to a liturgy

Hi But for Grace!

Hmmm…ponderponderponder

It could have been a prayerbook for one of our holydays, maybe Yom Kippur (jewfaq.org/holiday4.htm), since Leviticus 16:1-34 & 18:1-30 are read during the morning & afternoon prayers, respectively, on Yom Kippur. Or it could have been a Sabbath prayerbook for use on those Sabbaths during the year when the weekly Torah readings are from Leviticus; see jewfaq.org/readings.htm & jewfaq.org/liturgy.htm#Siddur.

Howzat?

Be well!

could it have been the book for home blessings and Sabbath and Passover rituals (I have forgotten the name for it).
