Hi - I was looking in the phone book today and came about a Catholic Church. The advertisement said St. Jude, A Liberal Catholic Church.

I looked at masstimes.org and didn’t find one. Can anyone explain this to me – and has anyone attended a “Liberal Catholic Church”?

The Liberal Catholic Church is a ‘break away’ church that is primarily Theosophitism with Catholic trappings.

In other words, they accept things like Reincarnation, which is incredibly contrary to Christian Ontology.

In is NOT in communion with Rome

We have one in our diocese that is not in communion with Rome. They called themselves The New Catholic Church.

I think it is frightening that they can keep the title “catholic” … how confusing for nominal catholics, if they don’t know there faith.

Interesting site.
I have to admit, many of their beliefs and practices are standard fare, in any RC parish in the USA.
Such as, altar girls, wandering homosexuals, hodge podge belief system, syncretism. you name it, It looks like Catholic to me!

However, in the area of Liturgy, something caught my eye, Here it is.
“We have not however, turned our Altars around, simplified Mass vestments,Eliminated the requirement for gold or linen items that touch the Blessed Sacrament, or otherwise decreased the respect due to the Body and Blood of Christ, Our Mass is an English translation of the old Tridentine Latin Mass. And is very reverent”

doesn’t sound bad at all!
Maybe they could teach us A few things!

The was a Liberal Catholic Church in Letchworth Garden City where I used to live. I believe it was one of only two in UK and the “bishop” lived there. It was a small place with a notice saying “No particular beliefs necessary” which says it all.
