So i’m at college and every sunday i go to the on-campus Catholic mass. It’s a new parish, St. Luke’s, run by the Paulist Fathers. As I use to be very serious about my faith, it has become harder after realizing how liberal this parish is. After reading about liberalism on these boards, i knew it was out there, but i never imagined it carried into the ranks of the priests. I’ve defended my beliefs against protestants for so long now, just to find that some “catholic priests” are more protestants with a Catholic wrapper.

I don’t really know what to do. In defending my Faith to protestants, the greatest strength i relied on was our unified faith based upon Scripture and Tradition. However, that almost seems to be a lie.

The Catholic Truth is nothing easy to grasp. It’s certainly different than anything else out there. But if a priest can’t grasp the Truth, what does that say about our religion?

Perhaps the best word for the way i feel is disenchanted.

No matter how liberal a priest is, the Church has still has never taught doctrinal error. That is a testament to God’s guidance in itself! 1 out of 12 of the apostles were traitors and Jesus hand-picked them!

But if a priest can’t grasp the Truth, what does that say about our religion?

Perhaps the best word for the way i feel is disenchanted.

It’s a result of pride, and expresses itself as disobedience. Priests can grasp the Truth, but some choose to reject it and elevate their own opinions over the Church’s opinions. It’s like that in many places unfortunately.

You can pray for the priests in question, pray for those who may be lead astray, and most difficult of all - attend and OFFER IT UP to God. Easier said than done. And also, remind yourself to love them!

I use the internet to stay connected with our orthodox priests and bishops. They nourish me when I get gruel from my local parish. I have bought many CDs of Archbishop Sheen to listen to, and read many books that are devout.

Did I mention prayer? I was an atheist for 25 years, and I am sure that God heard prayers from my Christian friends.

I take heart in the fact we have an awesome Pope. Cling to the cross and you will come out of this a better person. Do not despair!

If you do not already have one… I would suggest getting a copy of the Cathechism of the Catholic Church, too. It is a great help, when you run across the occasional “liberal” priest… or parish. Because then, you can find out exactly the teaching of our faith. From there, you might be able to address the liberalism… from the standpoint of what Holy Mother Church teaches.

Even if you seem helpless to challenge or change what’s going on in your parish… you will know what the Church teaches and what it does not. God bless.

My experience with the Paulists is so negative I wouldn’t share it on here for fear people would accuse me of lying.

If you have the fortitude, I would suggest that you hold fast to your faith and act as a witness thereto at this parish.

Otherwise, you may consider attending Mass at another parish.
