What is Liberation Theology? Is the church against it? I keep hearing all of these people say that it’s bad or they’re against it, but no one ever says what IT is!:confused:
 
One reason I know they have been against it is because it turned into a political movement that used violence, especially in Central/South America. I think part of it involves the idea of collective salvation rather that Jesus saving each of us individually. The idea that your salvation & my salvation depends on everybody being saved. Kind of like Jesus came to save all of us, of course, but unless we all go, none of us get there, does that make sense? It is unbiblical.
 
The Church has taught against the interpretation of Liberation Theology for two main reasons, as I understand it. First it is closely aligned to Marxism in practice. Second, it’s adherents often tolerate a level of violence that is opposed to a truly Christian response to oppression.
