Libyan president attacks Christianity says it is paganism.

That was in response to Swiss minarets ban, this is a translation of part of what (Muammar al-Gaddafi) said recently to the Libyan news agency:

English:
"*al-Gaddafi sees that Swiss people are following a paganism religion because they worship the cross which is paganism worshipping, whom Messiah didn’t permit nor God, therefore, who do not follow Muhammed and the Islamic religion he/she in the afterword is a loser and we wish they are losers.

And al-Gaddafi warned that banning the minarets and intimidation of Islamism is like playing with fire which would backfire on them, and promised an Islamic reaction to that saying that would give us justifications to repeal this tolerance where we allowed Churches and crosses in the Islamic world which are idols.

And added, we were silent on the Christian religion, we know the abrogation of Christianity by Islam, and if the moment of truth comes, we can say to them that the Church is wrong, and the cross is wrong, and all of that is paganism.*"

ورأى القذافي أن السويسريين يتبعون ديانة “وثنية” لأنهم “يعبدون الصليب الذي هو عبادة وثنية لا قال بها المسيح ولا قال بها الله… إذن الذي لم يمش مع محمد ومع الدين الإسلامي هو في الآخرة من الخاسرين، نحن نتمنى أن يكونوا من الخاسرين،” وفقاً لما نقلته وكالة الأنباء الليبية

وحذر القذافي من أن الدعوة إلى حظر المآذن والتخويف من “الأسلمة” هو “لعب بالنار، وسينقلب عليهم،” وتوعد برد فعل إسلامي قائلا: “هذا يعطينا مبررات حتى نحن نلغي هذا التسامح الذي عملناه معهم وسمحنا في العالم الإسلامي بالكنائس وبالصلبان التي هي أوثان.”

وأضاف: “نحن قبل هذا كنا ساكتين على الدين المسيحي … نحن نعرف أنه ملغي بعد أن جاء الإسلام … وإذا جاءت الحقيقة نستطيع أن نقول لهم إن الكنيسة غلط، والصليب غلط، وهذه كلها عبادة وثنية.”

I don’t give a darn what Reagan, or any other USofA’s President think about him.

I don’t read he said anything about Christianity, but he did say truth about Switzerland.

Hahaha. Sure thing, eOxy…I’m sure Qaddafi loves Orthodoxy, too, and certainly sees teh difference between it and whatever form of Christianity is practiced in Switzerland.

Anyway, I did think of this for a bit when responding to the thread about the Swiss minaret ban. I still stand by what I said there (minarets don’t cause Islamic terrorism, but I still don’t feel bad that the Swiss have made this decision), but it is true that what the (nominally) Christian West does about Islam in its sphere of influence has impacts that are almost always very negative for Christians in the East, so the West ought to be more careful and considerate. There is certainly a balancing act to be performed here, as sometimes this attitude leads to what I personally see as an unacceptable compromise of principles (like all the Christian leaders who signed the “Common Word” document out of their concern that not signing it would jeopardize the Christian communities in the East), but with someone like Qadaffi who is always making outlandish statements, I don’t know what I can say. He would be unhappy and angry with the West no matter what happens, because this seems to be the way he maintains his prestige in the Islamic world (maybe I am wrong since I don’t live there, but this is how it seems to me…he certainly doesn’t win any awards for being a competent, fair leader!)

Not only Libyan president but also all Muslims Consider Christians as Pagan. So here is a point,some of our Christian fellows here desperately wanted ( in another thread) Abrahamic monotheist unity.So it is a clear message for the catholic Christian friends and that is,so called Abrahamic unity is not possible because Muslims do not consider Christianity as a monotheist religion.And that’s why if some of us want monotheist unity then, it is clear that, Muslims will never accept the unity.

I don’t think I can also accept the unity of abrahamic religion, since I really have a big doubt of whether Islam is inspired by God. So far what I can see what is needed is the tolerance towards other people of different religion no matter where the inspirations came from since I don’t think that globally people will come to one fully agreed inspiration, even monotheism. But in the long visioner best attitude is to follow what Lord Jesus himself said to us: beyond tolerance, we are called to love our neighbour, since tolerance seems to limit our acceptance towards other people as long as they don’t bother us. But love exceeding this, it’s an active role that we have to take to participate in adn by this we ourselves has shown who our God is.

Back to the Libyan president, I agree with Dzheremy, he was putting his mouth at where his popularity could benefit him in his own crowd. I just hope that the mad dog is still tied in his own doghouse, otherwise we would see damages unnecessary. …

That was “word by word translation” of what al-Gaddafi said in Arabic, I did it word by word so that no one would accuse me of corrupting his words, that is why the sentences sound loosely.

That explains it. You really can’t translate word for word and keep the meaning. The Chinese factories do that, and the English text on the back of some of their products is hilarious.
