For those of you who haven’t totally closed your minds on the intent of Robin Williams’ recent comments, here’s a link that puts them in context.
Williams suggests that the reverend he plays is Episcopalian (at the very least, certainly liturgical Protestant). If you see the movie, you’ll see at least two major reasons why they chose not to portray him as a Catholic cleric.
I saw the movie, and it’s actually quite decent. The clergyhood isn’t slammed, and in fact is held in no small esteem. I give it an 8.3

I’m not sure of what to say. I wanted to see the movie when I first saw the preview in the theatre, but then I felt angry at the fact that it looked like the movie was mocking Catholicism. Then I read an article that said Robin Williams was making fun of the CC. Then I saw this and read the link on pg 1 of this topic… I don’t think I’m ever going to watch a Robin Williams’ movie. I used to like him, he was one of my favorite actors, but now, I’ve lost all respect for him. Sad to see how the world allows this type of behavior on the screen.

Some people i know want to see it. I’m not sure if i should go as i can’t tell by the previews if it is a good comedy or an anti-catholic thing. Anyone know? It does look funny from what i’ve seen and i haven’t seen anything i would consider to be anti-catholic, but i don’t want to go into a movie theater and be offended for 2 hours. Thanks.

As others have already mentioned, the movie itself doesn’t cater much to a specific denomination. No anti-Catholicism, but also, unfortunately, not nearly as funny as the previews indicated.
It’s not a terrible waste of time, and I can see potential for evangelism if your going with a group on nominal Catholic/Christian friends in need of the message of chastity (though it certainly falls short in this regard as well - it even goes as far as to imply that contraceptives are a-ok, though this is hardly a surprise). Just don’t go into the theater expecting comedy gold.
That being said it shouldn’t be too long until this movie hits DVD anyway; I might just wait it out if I were you.
