The other day in my OB nursing class I felt like I was getting hit over the head by Planned Parenthood. People were talking about how they did their NP clinical there (hopefully by their choice and not mandated from the college), or about “when it’s necessary” to terminate a pregnancy, etc. It bothers me so much, that sometimes I go to Liveaction.com and just read about it–it reminds me just how much abortion really hurts women. It’s my little escape for a while to get away from what the class says and read some truthful things.
The other day I was on a website about abortion (I can’t even remember the name now!) and it said that because Planned Parenthood is a “private sector” their physicians are not required to have current licensure to practice at PP–which would be interesting considering many of them receive federal funding in addition to private grants. Does anyone know of any credible sources that would support this? I really hope this is untrue–even though I don’t like PP, I would hate to know the doctor performing the abortion (or nurse in some states) doesn’t even hold a current license. I would be interested in sharing it with my classmates.
I just learned in a class that licensure prevents the public from “incompetent, unethical providers”(Those are legitimately the words in my textbook). Although any doctor performing abortions obviously breaks those guidelines, I can only imagine doctors who aren’t up to date on infection control, abortion techniques to maintain safety for the mother, etc.
**PS I am not condoning or supporting PP or Abortion in any way, shape, or form. My concern is for those women who do choose to have abortions–that they would be at least minimally kept safe so they at least have the chance to turn their lives around and realize abortion is wrong.
