Licensure for Planned Parenthood Doctors?

The other day in my OB nursing class I felt like I was getting hit over the head by Planned Parenthood. People were talking about how they did their NP clinical there (hopefully by their choice and not mandated from the college), or about “when it’s necessary” to terminate a pregnancy, etc. It bothers me so much, that sometimes I go to Liveaction.com and just read about it–it reminds me just how much abortion really hurts women. It’s my little escape for a while to get away from what the class says and read some truthful things.

The other day I was on a website about abortion (I can’t even remember the name now!) and it said that because Planned Parenthood is a “private sector” their physicians are not required to have current licensure to practice at PP–which would be interesting considering many of them receive federal funding in addition to private grants. Does anyone know of any credible sources that would support this? I really hope this is untrue–even though I don’t like PP, I would hate to know the doctor performing the abortion (or nurse in some states) doesn’t even hold a current license. I would be interested in sharing it with my classmates.

I just learned in a class that licensure prevents the public from “incompetent, unethical providers”(Those are legitimately the words in my textbook). Although any doctor performing abortions obviously breaks those guidelines, I can only imagine doctors who aren’t up to date on infection control, abortion techniques to maintain safety for the mother, etc.

**PS I am not condoning or supporting PP or Abortion in any way, shape, or form. My concern is for those women who do choose to have abortions–that they would be at least minimally kept safe so they at least have the chance to turn their lives around and realize abortion is wrong.

EWTN showed a documentary the other day…can’t recall the name, but it covered a lot of the unsanitary conditions including not sterilizing instrument trays properly. It is not suprising.

I don’t know about the license issues, but a Catholic organization that would, and in great detail, and may even have a document or brochure with statistics on the topic, is American Life League. They have a website and a contact email. They have had many dealings with PP on many levels over the years.

FYI, I heard a doctor say basically of course those doctors in abortion clinics are the worst doctors. A bright, talented, ethical person does not go thru medical school to spend their career slaughtering babies. The abortionists often are the ones who could not get hired anywhere else. They are sort of the “underclass” of the medical world. Successful doctors do not respect abortionists and do not associate with them. It’s not looked upon as the same scientific and careful level of practicing medicine as other specialists.

From my understanding, they have to have their usual license to practice medicine and most states/countries have various licenses required to perform surgeries.

As for the pro-aborts in your class, ask them what condition requires the death of the foetus to save the mother. They won’t be able to name one as there aren’t any. There are conditions which require the termination of pregnancy to allievate symptoms, but termination of pregnancy and killing the foetus aren’t the same thing. Pregnancies terminate themsevles after nine months anyway!

[There is ectopic pregnancy, but that falls into that irritating catagory of double effect, where the intention to kill the child is not the point of the surgery]
