Lies we sometimes believe about ourselves

As I mature in the traditional Catholic faith, I notice that a lot of the “truisms” I used to think I “knew” have fallen away. If asked about these things I “knew” my answer would likely have been: because EVERYONE knows that! :rolleyes:

Why, for instance, does everyone believe that the Catholic Church used to condone slavery? Everyone says this, but the truth is quite the opposite:

Why, for instance, does everyone believe that the Church has come to terms with Modernism, and is okay with modernism?

There are a ton of examples, where the accepted “wisdom” that everyone knows are really anti-Catholic lies…

And we believe these things about ourselves!

Do you have any examples? Any examples perhaps of what you used to “know” that you have come to reject?
 
I wasn’t Catholic at the time that I thought this, but I used to think that Catholics worshiped Mary and held her higher than God. I was also told that Catholics were a lot like Pagans since they prayed to numerous different saints and Mary. After doing my own research I of course found out that all these accusations were false.
