What happens after a priest is ordained? How does he get his first assignment? What happens after graduating from the Seminary, going through Permanent Diaconate, and after Ordination?

Here in the states it is customary for them to have a vacation after the first Mass, before reporting to their first assignment (usually they are informed by the bishop shortly before the ordination). The lone new priest in Grand Rapids was told the day of the ordination, the bishop publicly announced the assignment at the end of Mass.
At this point the most likely first assignment is still as a parochial vicar (“associate pastor”) usually for 1-3 years, depending on the needs of the diocese and the possibility of further education.
The term used (although inaccurate) is “transitional diaconate”, just for the record.
