Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Has anyone else participated in a “Life Chain” during this Respect Life Month?

Yesterday, my husband and I participated in a “Life Chain” with members of our parish and others belonging to various congregations in our area. We gathered for prayer and then stood outside City Hall on the sidewalk facing traffic, continuing to pray silently while holding large posters with the message to “Pray for the end of Abortion”.

Only one Catholic Deacon and one Baptist pastor came with their congregations, sad to say. I prayed my Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and held my Rosary with the banner in a way that I hoped some would recognize it – especially any Catholics who drove by, and need to come home to the practice of their faith.

We hope our prayer and witness allowed hearts and minds to be touched and opened even for a minute to allow God’s Grace to change them and to see the Truth of God’s Love for all – including and especially the innocent unborn babies killed by abortion. May His Mercy flow into the hearts of all who may be considering abortion as well as those who may have undergone or encouraged abortion already. May God have mercy on us all.

Mary, Mother of the Church, Patroness of the Unborn, pray for us.
Jesus, we trust in You.

My roommate does them. I don’t support them because I don’t support indiscriminate use of graphic images. I get a lot of accusations from those who do Life Chain about how I’m apparently not pro-life if I don’t support life chain. I asked our priest ( FSSP) and he said there is a time and a place for such tactics. I did not get the impression that he also supports the indiscriminate use of graphic images. That could be why you didn’t see more clergy.

Dear Deo Gratias,

Our Life Chain has never had “indiscriminate use of graphic images”. Our posters are simple green print on white poster paper – large enough to be seen by passing cars. Have you seen graphic images displayed on other “Life Chain” posters???

It might be good to check on what is done and offer advice to those in charge of local “Life Chains”. It is important to make some effort to help people realize the absolute horror of abortion and the killing of innocent babies in the womb or in partial birth abortions, but I agree at a public demonstration often children who are not ready for the realistic images of what happens are simply not ready for such things.

I’m always happy when parents bring their children to pro-life rallies and to “Life Chain” because the image of an innocent young child is worth a thousand words! 🙂 In previous years we have had our parish youth group involved. I missed them this year, and I’m not sure why they were not there.

While I can understand some good reasons for not attending, I did hear some sad accounts of people simply not wanting to give up their Sunday afternoon or having “other things to do”. I was so impressed by the number of older people with canes or chairs who came to witness yesterday. I wonder about the priorities of some Christains and especially Catholic Christians in America today.

I hope you continue to pray for an end to Abortion in our country and in the world even when you do not participate in a “Life Chain” event. Thanks very much for your reply.

I’ve done a Life Chain and it was great. Unfortunately, these are usually held when the weather is chilly. I would prefer they be done more in the warmer months.

Dear Miserissima,

Thanks for your reply. In the southern part of the US, October is usually a nice month, but can still get quite warm. The City Hall faces the sun and it has been VERY hot without shade. As I’ve shared with others, the heat can be something to offer along with standing for an hour, praying to end abortion.

Life Chains may be held in October since it is “Respect Life Month” but prayer needs to be offered every day for all those in most need of God’s Mercy. It is significant to me that October is also the Month of the Rosary, and Mary our Mother is also the Patroness of the Unborn.

Mary, Mother of the Church and Queen of the Rosary, pray for us.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Unborn, pray for us.
St. Joseph Protector of Mary with the Christ Child, and Protector of the Church, pray for us.
Jesus, as a Child, Herod sought to kill You, have mercy on the unborn of our time.
