I’d wish you’d stop talking about Darwinism, as Darwinism is not an accurate term to describe modern evolutionary theory, which you have demonstrated, know next to nothing about.

**You trust that Atomic theory is correct and allows for the safe use of Nuclear energy.

Yet, you don’t trust that modern evolutionary theory is correct, because you think you know best over the 99.85% of America’s earth and life scientists that know the theory is valid**.

Bizarre.
I am not average in my beliefs, and I am not afraid not to think like the rest of the scientific community when it comes to evolutionary theory. (It wouldn’t be the first time I fell into the 2 1/2 percent on the scale of normalcy.) They are simply wrong on this one if inherent in their theory is mere randomness and chance without any influence of the divine operation of God at work on creation. And if it is not Darwin whose theory is the crux of evolutionary theory then please tell me whose theory is so I can know the truth. I’d appreciate you help on this one. Also Atomic theory does not contradict truth like modern evolutionary theory does, it’s theory doesn’t remove God from the picture. Only when atomic theory is applied to building fission-fusion bombs (hydrogen bombs) that can vaporize civilians at ground zero and destroy entire coasts of people do I have a problem with its application. Even Oppenheimer had a problem with the hydrogen bomb and its mass destruction on innocent people - and he was the father of the first atomic bomb.

That is wonderful, it means that science is constantly seeking truth, is not afraid to find out it was wrong.
Finally something we agree on! 👍 However, on evolution, it seems like no matter how much evidence is against it, the scientists choose to believe it because they personally don’t like the idea of a Creator. That’s not science. That’s personal opinion getting in the way of science.

Nothing comes from nothing - ex nihilo nihil fit.

You fail. Try again. :coffeeread:
Nothing is highly unstable, and metaphysics states that there should be something, rather than nothing. Study, learn, or ignore education and remain in your nice, safe and very warm bubble.

I’m starting to learn, not to waste my time with involved answers, as no one around here is interested in learning anything new about the natural world. 😦

Yet, a lot of people around here make one single exception…the theory of evolution.

This is the one theory, that most people around here are not experts, or are not even enthusiasts who have above average educations in relation to modern evolutionary theory, yet you will happily reject this theory, while accepting and partaking in just about every other scientific marvel and scientific theory, that you know just as little about.

It truly is a puzzle, and to me, it simply shows how closed minded people can be if they feel that their faith is being threatened.
You’ll be happy to know that I’ve been doing a lot of research on this. You won’t be happy to know that so far, my beliefs are the same as when I started. (Thank God for that, eh Ready? Atheism is depressing. :p)

  1. I suspect that nothing will sway you if you feel that your need for God is being challenged.
  2. A non-belief in a supernatural Super God is not depressing, it is simply non-belief in a supernatural super God that is invisible and lives in a fantastic paradise that no one can see.
That’s not depressing, that’s called reality.

I’m very interested! But so far all you’ve given me is how many people I disagree with, how smart they are, and a load of “evidence” that seems to be invisible as I haven’t seen any on this thread. Please educate me so that I may grow closer to the truth.

Ah yes, the paranoid delusions of a world wide conspiracy by nearly 100% of the science community.

I was wondering when the conspiracy fans would start coming out of the wood work.

Without God, life is meaningless. Without God, there is no joy, no hope, no love, nothing to live for. Why do you think so many people commit suicide?

😃 I’m no conspiracy fan, Phantasm! But let’s face it, there is no such thing as an un-biased scientist.

Yes, thank God!🙂

Why do you think so many people commit suicide?
Mental illness.

Why do you believe so many people kill themselves?

You’ll be interested to know, secular Canada has a much lower suicide rate than very religious and very Christian America.

Are you sure you want to head in this direction, you will regret it and you’ll have to start saying things like ’ statistics are manipulated and mean nothing’ 🙂 ?.
**
’ Among the most common faith groups in the U.S., Protestants have the highest suicide rate; Roman Catholics are next; Jews have the lowest rate.
Followers of religions that strongly prohibit suicide, like Christianity and Islam, have a higher suicide rate than those religions which have no strong prohibition (e.g. Buddhism and Hinduism.) '**

Many Christians wholeheartedly believe that life has no meaning without God, not just any God, but the Christian God.

All of you who believe life without the Christian God would be meaningless, I ask you this;

" Would your life have been meaningless if you had been born in the year 10,000, 50,000 or 100,000 B.C?"

Serious question, as millions of humans lived upon the earth for many thousands of years before Judaism, let alone Christianity, had even begun.
Phantasm,

You’ve got to start by defining what is the meaning of life. As a Catholic, I believe that our purpose is to know and love God as stated in the very first paragraph of the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
  1. God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life. For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man. He calls man to seek him, to know him, to love him with all his strength. He calls together all men, scattered and divided by sin, into the unity of his family, the Church. To accomplish this, when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son as Redeemer and Savior. In his Son and through him, he invites men to become, in the Holy Spirit, his adopted children and thus heirs of his blessed life.
So, that’s what a Catholic believes is the meaning of their life. Your question is what happened before Christ, before Judaism, in civilizations apart from the Judeo-Christian tradition (If I’ve misunderstood what you are asking, please clarify).

Strange timing, I’ve actually been reading about this very thing today. If I understand correctly, the Church teaches that people who were/are “invincibly ignorant” of the Gospel could attain eternal life if they had the desire to be baptized or saved and were willing to conform to God’s will (if only they knew it). So, that being said, the meaning of life has been the same for all mankind, even when societies were ignorant of the one true God (the Holy Trinity) . Glimpses of truth, some found in various forms of pagan worship or secular philosophy were preparation for the Gospel. That’s my understanding, in a nutshell. I realize that you will disagree and you are certainly free to do so.

I’m very interested! But so far all you’ve given me is how many people I disagree with, how smart they are, and a load of “evidence” that seems to be invisible as I haven’t seen any on this thread. Please educate me so that I may grow closer to the truth.
Your missing my point. I am not qualified to educate you. I am a layman, with a basic understanding of evolutionary theory.

Just as I accept the scientists who support and work in germ theory, a theory I know absolutely NOTHING about, it is the same with evolution.

I must accept, when I am told by the scientists and when I read the peer reviewed research, that the evidence is absolutely overwhelming in support of the theory.

The alternative…

The theory of evolution is a massive, world wide and complicit conspiracy by close to 100% of the scientific community.

Which, is ridiculous in the extreme.

So, that being said, the meaning of life has been the same for all mankind, even when societies were ignorant of the one true God (the Holy Trinity) . o.
Even when those people were breaking, what is it, 6 of the ten commandments and worshiping false Gods and false idols?

Hmmmm…nope, don’t buy it.

Thankfully, I wasn’t trying to convince you, but was rather answering your question. I doubt that the fact that people break the commandments is proof that my answer is false since I would bet that most Jews and Christians have also broken a commandment or two or ten. It’s even worse since we know the commandments! We believe we have the full deposit of faith. Other Christians have certain percentages of truth. Jews have a bit less, Muslims a bit less, other non-Christians a bit less, on down the line. Even the most pagan of societies, who may have had < 1% of truth were ritualistic, which prepared them for liturgy. Societies that worship(ped) false gods learned how to worship, which prepared them to worship the true God. Just because you don’t believe this explanation, doesn’t make it false. Just because I do believe it, doesn’t make it true, but I think it is an answer to your original question.

Nobody should just go along with what scientists set forth just because the scientists are experts if it goes against what one already knows. One is then supposed to investigate and seek the truth as best as possible. Scientists can hold the majority rule on things but majority rule or a democracy does not determine truth. Truth in essence is truth no matter how many people agree or disagree about it. Scientific communities have rejected theories long held to be true because with further investigation usually comes further understanding and oftentimes the shifting of man’s conception of certain things. But the truth never changes at all. It always was, always is, and always will be the same. I only pray that people can see how dangerous it is to go against what they believe just because of what evolutionists scientists say or just to fit in with the majority of society, who have fallen so far into the darkness of sin and fallen away from the light of grace. Just looking at the mass corruption of morals is indication to me how certain evolutionary theories can be accepted by the masses. I am open to natural selection mind you. I believe it exists in nature from my understanding of things. That’s why I don’t knock all theories of evolution.

If anyone bothers to read the link you provided they will see that the author states that “the idea of an unstable nothingness is meaningless”. What is evident is that you haven’t read the book, or even the excerpt you presented to bolster your nonsensical assertion. What is even more embarrassing is that you apparently didn’t bother to find out who the author is, and what he teaches.

It seems as though you are the one not interested in learning.:doh2:

Same goes for all religions.

Just rephrase;

Nobody should just go along with what the religious leaders set forth just because the religious leaders are experts, if it goes against what one already knows.’

The difference, science is based upon evidence, religion is based upon faith due to the complete absence of evidence.
