So just last weekend, I posted on here about how I felt about the angry and bitter attacks on people for their beliefs which may or may not coincide with the more conservative Catholics – my point is to try and understand that vitriol and all this negative emotion is not the best way to bring people along in their understanding and beliefs.

So today, I learned after 26 years with my employer – literally my entire adult life – that because of a reorganization, I am out of a job. While everyone here on Catholic.com is getting all riled up about something like politics and scandals in the Church, imagine what you might think if you heard what I did today? I care passionately about my Faith, about the Church and without it, I would never have reached this point in my life. I also know that it will be my Faith that will help me not be bitter or angry. It will be my Faith that helps me survive. Please, everyone — try to find the compassion to hear out others without personal attacks and all the anger.

I will get off my soap box now. God bless you all with my sincere heart.

I am sorry to hear this and I can assure you - I don’t have to imagine it. I went through the same thing. Many of us have. And, it is very difficult when that job is your only source of income. May God bless you.

I think job loss is listed as one of the top ten traumas and I am sorry for your plight. When it happens to you, you can identify in a new manner with others in the same position and I fear unemployment is only going to get worse.

I, too, have been amazed at some of the recent threads on this forum and the caustic comments that should never have been said. We are living in rather unique times, now, and I believe that some of the outrage is nothing more than fear. I don’t believe you can separate the issues of politics and Church scandal from your life, however. You may think these issues are removed from your immediate world, but they are not. The government corruption we are currently seeing, for instance, directly effects us whether we realize it or not. The scandals in the Church cause further disturbance in our souls although we may not perceive it on a conscious level. Sin is sin and the effects of such deeply permeates and colors our environment. Confusion, doubt and lies pull us in a thousand different directions. I am deeply affected by sinful world events and just as we would be the benefactors of a saint in our midst, so too, we are realizing the consequences of a loss of faith and the decline of the Church.

The deterioration of faith and morals should make us cling more tightly to the theological virtue of hope and the Second Coming of our Lord, which perhaps is very near, and that is what I pray for you and all who are struggling.
