Life is a pointless cycle

Just pray for him.

It might be necessary to debate with him,
Or it might be necessary to avoid religious discussion and just pray for him

You’re right life is a pointless cycle we live only to die from diseases with no cure if god really loved and cared about us then he wouldn’t fill the earth with diseases that can kill us

In the United States, there are State and Federal workplace laws. One great way to violate these is to allow employees to create a “hostile work environment” and the best way to get such a complaint is allowing discussion about sex, marital status, race/ethnicity, religion and/or politics (again, unless that is the tied to the actual job description).

As an employee, I am paid to do X job for Y hours in exchange for Z compensation. I’ve not had a job in the secular world where debating religion was anywhere on my job description, so, when I am on the job I do my job. I keep the “small talk” to small talk.

Sometimes I have made friends with co-workers, then we discuss personal matters outside of work. If we want to talk politics at lunch, we do not do it in the parking lot or break room, we go to a cafe.

Good workplace manners will do more good than a hundred heated debates with coworkers.

I have had many conversations at lunch and in the parking lot about topics other than work. As long as people are in need of support, I will continue to do so. And hope others will as well.

Also, I did mention in my first post to continue the conversation only if it does no harm. Meaning - jeopardize job, the guy is a stalker…

Actually it seems you would be better off not arguing. What if you took the opposite approach, and affirmed him for his world view, and refused to contest it?

“I am glad you found a world view that works for you”, etc.
“It is great you can think so deeply about these things.”
"Yes I think you are right, that there is a cycle of life, and time has a beginning and end’
This would be my approach as well. Maybe it’s an age thing, but my experience is that you tie yourself in knots to prove what you know while the non-believer continues to lack faith and thinks it’s funny to “wind up” the “gullible” (insert religion here). This can turn ugly very quickly.
One great way to violate these is to allow employees to create a “hostile work environment”
Agreed. When you discuss your religion, you open yourself up for this person to turn around and accuse you of creating a hostile work environment which is making him uncomfortable. It is impossible to predict who is suddenly going to take offense or take something personally from a random conversation. My advice? One of the following:

“I find I am uncomfortable discussing these issues within this environment.” If you choose to continue interacting with him regarding these issues (which I don’t encourage), you could add “Perhaps there is somewhere neutral (diner, library, etc) we could meet to continue the discussion”? If you don’t wish to continue the discussion, you could recommend any of a number of excellent Catholic books regarding what and why we believe. One book I really appreciated in my conversion was Why Do Catholics Do That? but there are any number of good books of a similar theme out there.

I can relate to and appreciate your issue. I find myself drawn into similar discussions but they really are a minefield that can turn on you very quickly.

Despite what you say about diseases, war, famine, death of loved ones and many other awful things …God is real.

How, why, what, when and where I have no idea, but always remember that God is real and everything Jesus told us is true.

I didn’t say he wasn’t real he just doesn’t care about us or some of us

I think God leaves us to get on with things ourselves mostly but there are all sorts of complicated ways to say that as I’m sure you’ve noticed.

We are also guided by the Holy Spirit and our guardian angels. The guardian angel is mostly concerned with our spiritual welfare, that may include helping us with our physical welfare too from time to time I’m sure but not necessarily.

Ask, Jesus tells us to ask. Believe, pray and trust that somehow all this makes sense imo. The fact that so much has been written about this subject tells us that the answers aren’t easy to understand, and may not even be understood. But at the end of the day God is real and Jesus told us simply to love God and love your neighbour.

Why do you think God doesn’t care about you or certain people?

Yes that exactly what I mean he doesn’t care about me he didn’t care about my mother he says ask and it shall be given to you everything I’ve ever asked for was met with silence and I’ve never asked for materialistic things theres 7 billion people in the world it’s pointless to
Work your butt off for someone who doesn’t even know you exist

I believe you when you say you mean it.

Have you considered that God has answered just not in the way you expected?

Indeed the Universe has cycles. And if we are capable of learning from them we will note that GOD exists. He is the mastermind of Creation. We are here on Earth to learn and hopefully align our lives with the will of GOD.
With our short existence we can win an infinite reward or punishment for not taking advantage of the opportunities GOD put in our way.
To the nihilist life is pointless and has no meaning. To a Christian is a daily challenge to see Jesus in everything and everyone around us and to be Jesus helper. Not pointless at all.

The fact that there is not nothing proves that there is a power that stands outside the universe, and that created it. Physics can only describe what happens inside the universe; but it can never describe why there is a universe in the first place
You are assuming that it is possible for there to be ‘nothing’. This is a philosophic speculation. As far as I am aware ‘nothing’ has never been observed. Saying ‘the fact that there is not ‘nothing’…’ Is like saying ‘the fact there there is not a monster under the bed…’. The absence of illusions as real things does not lead to any rational deduction.

God did answer your prayers. His answer may not have been the answer you wanted, however, both “No” and “wait” are answers.

I will pray for you, God is hope and peace and I pray that you will be filled with peace.

Sometimes the answers are subtle. Unlike the people in the Old Testament, God doesn’t appear and have a conversation with me. He speaks to me in multiple other ways. In the blessings He gives me, in the scriptures, and in the “Holy Spirit moments” when I’ve looked for and found His guiding hand at work. Instead of praying for particular things to happen, try open ended prayers like, guide me on the right path, open my heart to hear you, and O Lord, help my unbelief. It should never be a negotiation.

I will pray that God shows you His loving hand and that you realize your status as a beloved child of God.

I do believe in him I didn’t say he wasn’t real he’s not my friend he’s a stranger
